Fun fact about me: i wasnt born when g1 was on air, but i watched it when i was really young, young me had no clue that the movie existed, so i just assumed that the timeskip caused the cast change, now i still havent watched the movie, i finally got it for christmas last year but havent had time to watch it lol

 

You aren't missing a whole lot. The soundtrack and animation are wonderful but that's about it.

 

I am missing the you got the touch montage scene thingy though so....

No. I didn't like any of the Autobot character deaths.

 

I was five years old when I saw it in the theater. I'm 99.9% sure that I didn't cry. Though, for whatever it's worth, I'm fairly certain that seeing the movie in the theater was my introduction to the world of Transformers. In 1984-1985, I was into He-Man. And in 1985-1986 I was into Thundercats. So I'm not really sure how many kids would've cried over a character that they had no previous knowledge of.

 

I was 7, saw it opening weekend, member of the fan club, big fan. So yeah, I shed a few tears. I didn't weep, I wasn't some stoic kid, I shed a few tears and realized that as much as I hated it, that's what happens in life; people you love die.

By the end I was excited by what Season 3 could bring. I debated with my friends if we'd see a season that introduced Hot Rod and the others, leading to Megs taking Cybertron and losing Earth, or if we'd keep going and see a new threat emerge. Little did I know that as a kid I seemed to have better ideas than the showrunners.  

 

I wouldn't know, I was only a few months old. The first time I can actually remember seeing the movie was years later and didn't really care.

 

If I'd of grown up in the 80's and seen it then yeah I might would have. I first watched it when I became obsessed with TF's after the '07 movie. I don't think I full out cried but I was pretty close. Same thing happened with the '09 movie.

 

No, it was just really dusty in the theater.

That actually ruined it for me. Like, why would you say that if Prime doesn't die?

 

Nah, but I could definitely see how that scene would do it.

 

I didn't cry. But I didn't get to see it in the theaters. My friends told me what happened. I don't think I saw the movie until it was aired during the season 5 episodes hosted by stop motion Powermaster Optimus Prime. I think the shock was pretty much over for me by the time I actually got to see the movie.

 

I cried because Hot Rod caused Optimus to get killed.

He changed the course of Transformers history, for the worse, with no more Megatron and Optimus.

 

I got a little misty, but that's it because it was an appropriate end and I don't really count it as crying. Same for Screamer, tho I had wanted to see him actually lead more. I still flinch and look away at the shuttle deaths, however.

And while I did shed tears for Dinobot in BW, I frickin' bawled at Starscream's death when I finally got to see the second half of Armada.

Yes despite knowing Prime was going to die. That death scene just got me.

 

I was 5, but I still vividly remember seeing it in the theater. I didn't cry when Optimus died. I was still wondering why Snarl wasn't with the rest of the Dinobots when they attacked Devastator.

Honestly I was more bummed out about Ironhide and Prowl dying than I was Optimus.

 

I probably would have, had I actually been able to see the movie in 1986.

Instead, I only heard about it. And while I accepted that this was what happened, it didn't feel real enough to have any impact, since all I had was abstract information. When I finally got to see the movie (1988, I think?) I had already absorbed this knowledge as old information, so it wasn't a shock. Saved by spoilers.

 

I saw it in theaters when I was 2, but I only saw it bc my brothers wanted to see it and they were both really upset OP died from what I heard. But, no tears. More of a "what the eff just happened?"
