I was in 2 local Targets today, and their DOTM Voyagers were up to $25, and their DOTM Deluxes were up to something like $15. I assume other Targets did this too?

How can they possibly hope to move old product at that price? Is this the precursor to some sort of sale?

I noticed the same thing at my Target today. They might be getting ready to start clearancing them all off the shelves.

Target doesn't usually raise prices before putting something on clearance though, do they?

Seems odd. Glad I don't need anything from that line.

I was checking out their web site earlier and I noticed that they raise the price too. And I thought that couldn't be right. My theory is that since the line is ending and they are low in stock, so they figured they will play supply and demand game.

Really doesn't make sense to raise prices on something that isn't going to stick around past summer. The "supply and demand" angle also doesn't make sense when you consider the product is aging with its replacement (Prime) on shelves for comparable prices (did Target raise prices on those?). Really, I'm not seeing a huge demand for DotM stuff (especially not when Walmart is loaded with as much or more for half the price)

More than likely it is Target trying to squeeze a few bucks out of toys in a slow period, much like how they've raised GI Joe prices to 10.99.

My Target has had those prices for awhile now, several months I would say. They were down for a few weeks recently as they were trying to dump the DOTM stuff, but they're back up again. Got into an argument with someone in a thread recently-ish who said deluxe prices being higher at TRU and as far as I can tell, Walmart is the only place that kept them that low the longest. Blah blah blah OIL.

It could be so that the clearance percentage doesn't take off as much as the previous price.

TRU did something similar with the 6" Iron Man 2 figures. They were around $10 or $12 for a while until they marked them back up to $15 and made them BOGO 1/2 off.

Might be the precursor to raising all their Transformers figures prices.

They may figure that if TRU can get $15 for a deluxe and $27 for a voyager, why can't they?

Perhaps the DOTM figures were raised to see how well your average buyer would react to it.

I would find the move stupid if they would do it. I've cut back going to TRU since Target and Walmart had lower prices. I would think having lower prices would bring in more money from collectors.

On the other hand, Target and Walmart have used toys as a loss leader for so long, they might be trying to make the department more profitable in the "off season"

On some level, they don't care about collector dollars, even though collectors are probably the more prominant buyers after Easter until the fall season starts up. It's whether or not something sells, has a good turnover, and is profitable. Let's be honest, Transformers is a big enough brand that they probably feel they can get away with a premium on the price because the demand is there.

Again, Target has been "price bumping" stuff in the spring for years now, and Walmart has started in on that as well (makes those "price reductions" in the fall look better without the stores nipping too much of their margin)
