If it were really a Broken Phantom homage, wouldn't he have to fire his fist off like a missile? :)

Considering Cybertron was made in Japan, I'm not sure if it's an homage so much as just a stylistic touch/convention that is more common in the Japanese super robot genre.

It's possible, but I think you're reading too heavily into it. Its just a stylistic choice for that punch that borders on cliche, as with many other scenes in countless other shows.

Cybertron is full of Brave homages.

But this isn't one of them.

    This is a punch.

The fist didnt fly off. nothing about the pose was the same.

actually that sucker punch to the face that optimus gives galvatron when he breaks through the shield .

that scene at 427 when gaogaigar manages to break through el 01's shield is what it reminds me of

Once again, I think you're reading too deeply into it. Its just a punch breaking through a shield, in an anime. That's all they've got in common. Using a camera angle facing the fist is something that's been used since like Astroboy.

Not really a homage to anything. It's a classic mecha / shonen style "hero hits forcefield and energy flies everywhere" sequence. Common in a whole lot of shows. Gaogaigar was neither the first nor the last to use that trick to raise tension.

:lol  Actually, even though I don't think it's a purposeful or blatant homage, that punch to the jaw DID remind me of exactly that shot from GGG... I didn't even have to follow your link, the shot is etched in my memory, because it made me laugh every time I saw it.

    Technically,
the Broken Phantom comes much later in the series. In the first episode, GGG was still using the Broken Magnum attack. However that punch was neither. It was just a punch, though a comically timed one. :)

If Galaxy Convoy had a counter-rotating drill punch, I'd give you that (hence Subaru Nakajima of the Nanoha anime series being widely known as "GaoGaigar-Tan"), but it's just a straight-up punch here. Nothing to see, moving along...
