Does he exist? Have an origin?
No he didn't. I've read it in the Allspark Almaniac 2
He said Unicron definitely exists in the Animated universe, and that he wasn't mystical..he's just a giant, super powerful transformer. Nothing much besides that.
DJW is not too fond of the more mystical aspects of the Transformers lore. Unicron does not exist in Animated canon. He did a Unicron commission for a fan to show what he MIGHT look like, but Unicron doesn't exist in Animated, no.
Edit: @Gogdog: Huh. I thought he said there was no Unicron at all. I recall at one point that was the dealie with Unicron.
Edit: On TFWiki it says nothing of Unicron's existence in Animated. I don't know what to think now.
I have heard him say in person that Unicron does exist, he's just not mystical nor god-like.
I understand right where he's coming from. I'm tired of them, myself.
I still don't like "created by an immortal space monkey".
But now, I like "mystical elder god from a previous universal cycle" even less. F that and F Primus.
Ah. I just read TFWiki and it didn't say anything about Unicron in Animated so that's why I was confused. If DJW said this after he was done with TF in his official capacity, that would be why.
I know in the Allspark Almanac 2 Cyclonus' bio kind of hints at him.
Both origins are weird. If I was to start a continuity, I'd make them organisms that just happen to be composed of metal, rather than have some strange origin story for them.
Derrick and Marty had very little to do with The Almanac II. That was all Jim Sorenson and Bill Forster and should be taken with a grain of salt.
I think I'd still have them created by the Quintessons, then attaining sentience after thousands of years.
They were created by the Allspark. But the origin of the Allspark in Animated continuity is unknown.
Oh didn't know that. I just skipped the credits and went straight to the bios lol.
Yeah back on Formspring last year Derrick said the Allspark is a super advanced computer that not even the Autobots understand how it works.
Basically, Wyatt grew up on the cartoons and not the comics, so he tends to favor the former over the latter when it comes to the mythos.
This is the best Transformers origin.
Sorry, I was talking about G1, branching off from the discussion of Unicron's alternate origins.
Even in the comics, the Primus/Unicron mystical/elder god-type origin was very much a latter-day addition to the mythos. None of it was any part of the origin as originally presented.
Well I prefer the mystical aspects of the Transformaer mythos myself but it's nice that Mr Wyatt was able to do a lot of things for the Animated Universe such as trying to fit Unicron in for instnece.
this the whole god thing in tfs is overplayed imo, little monkey built unicron? works for me lol. better than it's a god.
It took me about 24 years to come around to this way of thinking, but I'm here now.
