I think it killed the movie for me.

Starting to wonder if we cut everything out involving Anthony Hopkins, the movie would be better.

    I can't believe I just wrote that.

Besides DotM selling Shockwave as the main villain, which had actually legitimate reasons for being sold differently to hide the Sentinel twist and Soundwave being Carly's car (and even then we got the big Chicago battle as promised), TLK was the first film being billed as something totally different than it really was. That's not to say that there weren't instances of fans making past films to be something they weren't based on advertising, but TLK was the first in which the film was completely different from what it was being built at.

Want to know why they keep on coming here? No explanation. Not a throwaway line.

More screen time for Grimlock? Nope.

Exploring the Quintessons, the origins of the Transformers, Optimus, and Megatron? Other than some vague references during the first meeting between Prime and Quintessa there were none at all.

Prime doubting his leadership abilities (from the JoBlo leak)? He apologizes to the Knights for becoming Nemesis, but I didn't see anything resembling self doubt once he is saved by Bee's voice.

Funny enough, it wasn't Bay who was going around and saying all of this stuff. Everything besides the Joblo leak and the trailer that I just mentioned came from Lorenzo's words.

I have been thinking this myself.

Sometimes I really enjoy the movies for good chunks and then at other parts I wonder how professionals made and approved them.

The doubt was when Optimus was not fighting back when he was getting pummeled by Nitro Zeus, Megatron, then the Knights and accepting Death as his punishment for dooming Earth.

I mean he feels remorse for his actions and is willing to accept his fate, but that's not the same thing.

Granted, this is one thing I'm willing to grant a little lee way, because the Joblo leaks can always be a little misleading even if the bulk of the Joblo leaks for the last couple of films came true. There is often some information lost as the information is spread.

I never liked the idea of transformers being on Earth and changing history, and with whatever this "The secrets of transformers" thing came out, the Movieverse just makes no sense even more.

I like Anthony Hopkins as a actor, but his character just shouldn't be in the movie in the first place in my opinion.

Just a guess, but Optimus' ending speech says that Earth hides a dangerous secret, so; The secret in question could be that Earth infact was Unicron all along. After all, there would be mass-panic if everyone knew this considered how Unicron is. So, to avoid mass-panic, they kept Earth's true nature a secret, and that may be why they kept coming here. Anyway, just a guess. :)

If the writers and production really wanted to explore the “secret history of the transformers”, they would have gone with the allsparks hieroglyphics or government reprints of it. The movie would have been more efficient with that path over the witwickian clusterfuck-fest.

I wouldn't say I hate it, but I think it was the weakest part of the movie for me. I don't think too much historical stuff is a good thing to have in a movie like this, it works better as an in-the-moment adventure.

They give the Cybertronians way too much credit in Earth’s history.
Every little thing is basically “Transformers did it!” now.

Also, the imagery of a planet eating Transformer transforming over Earth will never happen, since they took the lame “Earth is Unicron” thing from TFP

I like the "Transformers historical conspiracy" idea. It was a clever way to put transformers in the 'real world' per se. That being said, there are parts of the concept I think could have been done better. It made sense in ROTF, but by the time you got to AOE, it was kind of like "Hey, wait, these are a lot of Transformer- related coincidences!" While TLK made some attempt to unify this by introducing a possible common factor (Unicron being Earth), it didn't really explain any of it. It was also unusual everyone was so surprised the Transformers have been here in TLK. Didn't they already cover this in ROTF?

    Not really.

I feel like if done better with more thought put into it than barely any, it could have been much better.

Completely unneeded especially the TFs fighting in our wars part, I highly doubt all the human combatants forgot about those giant robots.

I personally liked it, but mostly because I want to see a WWII set Transformers epic, though I do find the continuity frustrating.
