Awesome...that scale is so much better. Heh, the face on yours even looks more cartoon accurate. Did you ever come up with a concrete way of selling your pvcs? I've seen a bunch of singles on ebay, mainly your scourge and mirage...i really want them, but those ebay prices are way too insane for me....

OK, now where can we get one? That would top off my PVC collection to the max.

Really, how much to get one?

Yea, maybe you could make a deal with Ken here to reproduce all of your custom PVCs. I know I'd love a Sludge PVC...

Wow...just wow. Yeah like others are saying you need to mass produce your custom PVCs. You are our only hope of getting the great characters Takara gave up on. I had my fingers crossed for a Tracks or Springer, but then the PVCs died. :cry

Well done, looks so much better that way. Devastator should have been a chase figure like Metroplex or Fort Max.

    Thanks for the compliments guys!

He only took about a year to complete...

Last August I heard about this stuff called "HydroSpan" which you cast in a mold and then soak it in water and it expands 60% (so it works like those toy sponges you can get.) I always wanted to make Dev bigger, but, short of just sculpting a brand new one, didn't know how. This gave me a way, so I ordered some and would use the Devastator PVC to try it out on.

So... I made mold of all the parts of the pvc (I used the pewter version, so I wouldn't ruin my color one). Then I mixed the HydroSpan and pour it into the molds. When I got acceptable "Hydrospan" castings with minimal air bubbles, I let those soak in a jar of water for about three weeks... the smaller parts were fully enlarged within days, but the bigger, thicker ones take longer. Once all the parts were enlarged, I made quick junk molds from those parts (a little tricky, as once the parts are bigger they're a little slimy, it was kinda like trying to make a mold of Jell-o...) In these molds I poured wax, as I knew I would have to go in and refine the parts after they were enlarged, sharpen the details (which weren't that sharp on the original, Scavenger's detail are practically non-existant on my pewter one), fix the Scrapper leg (now two posts like it's suppose to be!). Once the wax sculpt was refined, a last set of molds was made and they were cast in resin. The resin parts were cleaned up, primed, and painted, adding an extra color to the head (as he has in the animation) and black tires to the legs (don't know if they were ever like that in the cartoon, but, eh, it's a lot of green otherwise!)

So that's his story. I made two to start with, one for my collection, one to put on ebay to start recouping some of those mold costs!

ebay is the way I'm going to make these available for now, it works best for me. I don't have to worry about a backlog of orders, when I get some done I put them up, and I get the best price for them. I will take orders directly, but the price will be based on the going ebay prices.

So, "Big Dev" and a new batch of my other custom PVCs are up on ebay right now if anyone's interested.
