    Hey Guys & Gals!

I'm wanting to get my Detolfs off the floor and can see via google how some people have done it, but does anyone know what these type of cabinets are called?

I've included a picture of what I mean, it's the big wooden cabinet the Detolfs are on top of.

Or, if anyone knows of any other cabinets from Ikea or elsewhere which are good for getting Detolfs off the ground, post a link and I'd be very grateful. :D

If you mean the horizontal one, I wouldn't be surprised if someone just sat a wooden one on its side & went with it hah.

I think that's a cool idea & it looks really nice, but I would be afraid of the weight, personally.

Oh yeah, I'd be afraid of shit tumbling down too, but I'd make sure to place my weight on the beams, have it as light as possible, and maybe even reinforce the bottom shelves.

Yeah, do not turn a bookshelf on its side. The structure won't support the glass cabinets on top. Anything you'll want to put a lot of weight on needs stronger, thicker shelves in between, like this:

This won't do, obviously, because it's a bench. But you get what I'm saying with the shelves.

That might work great actually, depending on the desired length.

Expedit shelves are pretty strong, but this is still an issue.

All the stuff in that pic, the expedit and the glass cases are available at Ikea.

Ikea sells 8 inch metal legs for $15.00 for a set of 4. I bought one set and they turned out great. Now I need to buy 5 more sets for all my Detolfs. Here is what I'm talking about.

That book case in the first picture can be used horizontally and vertically. Each piece of "wood" is a few inches thick. You can buy it at ikea as well.

Yeah, that's a pretty sturdy shelf, and like Squee said it can be used either way. It's designed like that. I'd be surprised if that doesn't hold.

hmm I might have to get a set of Capita with my next Detolf. Makes the bottom shelf more of a shelf and less of a "place to throw things you don't really wanna see" space.

Has anyone done this to their Detolf(s) themselves, and fancy posting a picture? Bonus points if it's a classics display cabinet, as it'd then be 100% relevant my situation ;)

Until then, pretty much the only picture I've been able to find

EDIT: I take it the resizing script's still disabled eh?

Not exactly sure what you mean... but the bottom shelves of my detolf are exactly that, stuff that aren't so important/won't be too missed sections

About what? The bottom shelf? I mean I'd rather be able to actually see what's on the bottom shelf of the display cabinet than have to use it to store boxes and stuff because I can't see it clearly.

Capita are legs for Detolf shelves, if that's what you mean.

I had Capita legs on a Detolf, but took them off. While I know it was stable, I couldn't help but think it was gonna fall over. I kept picturing that big old heavy case full of expensive TFs up on those skinny little stilts, and imagining it falling over. I shook it pretty good and it was stable, but I just couldn't get the image out of my head. So I ended up building bases that can double as shelves. Pics coming in a few days when I get them loaded up. That glass comes filthy out of the box so they gotta be cleaned before putting toys in.
