Devastator will always rule for being the first combiner. But Predaking is just too much awesome to handle.

Predaking has a better design by far, I mean Devastator will always be the first combiner but that's what make him fail design wise...since combiners were so new I guess you can call Devastator a "prototype" when it came to combiners and Predaking (I believe) was one of the last combiners introduced in G1 so by that time they were so good at designing combiners that Predaking had a lot more thought behind it then Devastator.

Just my two cents.

Predaking is imo the best designed G1 gestalt, and if they were to fight each other, I'd give the edge to Predaking because he has so many weapons at its dispose, whereas Devastator is more of an one-trick pony.

Predaking's design is fantastic, although Devvy's still cool. Bruticus will always own my soul, however.

Devs. Just because I am not that familiar with Predaking. I've seen him, but not a whole lot. And, to me, Devs has always been an image of "huge bad-ass" for as long as I can remember.

 

seems like Devastator has nostalgic feel that everyone likes, but the majority are pickin Predaking's design!

I like them both and won't pick one over the other.

Predaking is a work of art compared to Dev. Bright colors, he's bulky, hulking and the animal flourishes just ooze badassery.

Devastator is old skool in 2 areas. sure his design (as a toy) is old, seemingly poor, and not playable. but he is also old skool in that he is METAL. he's all steel, adamantium or whatever they are made of. But Like Rocky (in rocky iv) he is like iron, and won't stop.
So dev is like the old guard. old skool, stripped down and designed for war only.

He's kinda like the old USSR jets- they were built to sit out in acid rain, snow, in mud and dirt, they took off and landed like some kid was throwing them around and shrugged it off.

it is not apples and oranges here. it is just respecting their individuality.

 

Predaking FTW!   My favorite gestalt by far.

 

Couldn't have said it better, he also just looks cooler than predaking.

 

Devastator deserves props and all for being the first gestalt, but I'd rate him in terms of fearsome factors behind Predaking, Bruticus, Abominus, and even Piranacon and only ahead of Menasor. Predaking is robotics and beastiality all roll into one. It's a true beauty in terms of design. Having all 5 robots in the same size really helps the gestalt looks more intimidating and not Big Body and Skinny Limbs like Scramble City gestalts. Devastator just have too many additional parts to be considered well designed. Personally I am bias toward Predaking but I own all the gestalts except Menasor and Monstructor (yes I even have Liokaiser) so I love all of them equally, except I love Predaking more than others put together.

 

Let's also remember that in terms of the toys, Devastator doesn't even have upper legs. Just a big flat plate... which I think is ultimately a fail.
