No idea how solid this is, folks - thought it worthy of mention nonetheless. Sorry if the whole thing's old news: Johnny Depp to play the Riddler in next Batman film - MSN Movies
Both actors have already debunked this as of last week. Hoffman comes up everytime there is Batman movie speculation.
Nolan hasnt even signed on for third movie yet. From what Ive heard, no script, no story and no casting yet.
I know this has been going back and forth but this is the latest Ive read so far: Caine Confirms Batman 3 Villains!
NICE if it holds up. Yeah I heard this too. I'll post the link later, but if they go the route IGN speculated concerning Edward E. Nigma's roll in the Dark Night lore then I think this could be pure win. To summarize, Depp's Riddler would be in the form of Edward Nigma and would basically be working as a sort of detective/consultant for the Gotham PD to help them uncover Batmans whereabouts/motives/identity since he's now been labled a "villain" after the events of "The Dark Night" film (if you haven't seen this movie yet and I'm spoiling anything...shame on you, WTH's wrong with you!). I think this is an interesting approach, with Nigma's seemingly good intentions hiding an innevitable hidden agenda no doubt he can punish Bruce/Batman with all sorts of mind games that would make for one hell of a great detective story IMO. Of course this is Batman, so if we may need another A-list villian to spark some amazing fight/action sequences for Batman...I would rather not see the Penguin used for this movie though. My vote goes to Raz Al Gul's daughter Talia (A. Jolie maybe?) to be introduced as Bruce's new love interest and she would prove to be a much more interesting villian for Batman IMO.
Awsome johny depp and phillip seymour hoffman are terrific actors I would love to have the peguin in there(my favorite batman villian thats right joker take it LIKE A MAN!!)
I dont know that I would do the penguin. I can't see how you can have that character and not explain his background; where he came from, how is he disfigured, etc. Though I've learned to never question Nolan on anything Batman, this one has me puzzled. Oh well, I'll just bite my tongue until I see it.
That doesn't really confirm the news about the 3rd movie. The executive just told Caine what he thought would top the current movie.
I don't see the problem. The Penguin is just a short fat dude with a big nose that turns to crime after a crummy childhood, the whole disfigured psycopath thing was Burton's doing.
