I like the G1 insecticons- small, realistic and still Decepti-crummy. but where the hell, why the hell did Hasbro release those neon looking Deluxe Insecticons???? Aside from their picture in the TF toy catalog pamphlet i got with my toys, never heard, never saw em in anything else. they seem inconsequential to the G1 line. kinda like they are the TFs you'd find on the Island of Misfit Toys. so anyone got them and how are they? are they worth anything to anyone?
They were more toys introduced to swell the line in 1985. They came from Bandai's line, ZX Beetras. Unfortunately I don't own any, but they are kinda cool looking. More on them here.
I love those little guys, I have all four. Much better transformations than the little bugs. And Chop Shop's a klepto. That's just win.
They're actually pretty good toys. I have the Cicada one and I like it far better than the original insecticons.
Oh yeah those are cool didnt hasbro relaease them in the Beast Wars line? I remember them being out in the stores when i was little i thought Hasbro rereleased them by there names in a different forms
Huh? Sine when are black and purple mechanical beetles (and a grasshopper) "realistic"? and I don't really see how the deluxe insecticons are "neon".
But his deco is kinda realistic. While I can't find any Cicadas that are both green and orange. I can find some that are one or the other.
No. The Deluxe Insecticons might not have had a chance to appear in the cartoon and barely did in the UK comics, but I wouldn't call them inconsequential, just victims of licensing woes that kept them from getting proper treatment or from even a remote chance of being reissued, poor things.
I have them as well. The only problem I ever had was with the lack of proper articulation, but otherwise, quite nice figures.
Agreed. And they aren't expensive. I got mine within the last year, year and a half. I want to say I got them on eBay for 15-20 apiece. Now that I have WW Ratbat I should put together an Ultracon shelf.
Unfortunately, I paid significantly more for mine than that - around twice as much per Deluxe Insecticon - but they did come with all accessories, were in near mint condition, had their tech specs, and still came with all their original stickers intact, so I hardly feel cheated. I must admit that the Deluxe Insecticons are one of those toys that I never quite saw the appeal of until I actually owned them. The fact that they came in bright colors, looked insectlike even in their robot forms, and had legs that moved independently of one another just made them awesome.
I have every 84 85 US Transformer release except those 4 and I honestly can't be bothered to hunt them down like I did the others. Still that will proably be a thing to do at Botcon this year.
I had Barrage, bought him new at Walgreens back then! He actually was a really cool figger! But not even close to the coolness of the original three!
Really. The Takara Insecticons are basically boxes with bug legs. Kickback doesn't even have a tail/abdomen. The Deluxe Insecticons largely follow the body plans of the actual insects they are based on. There's a few neat little tricks in the Dlx transformations, such as tucking bug legs away inside larger robot parts. Another curious little thing is that the Takara and Dlx Insections share insect forms, at least in basic terms. Shrapnel <-> Chop Shop Kickback <-> Ransack Bombshell <sorta kinda not really> Barrage
