It's been awhile since my last customs entry (mainly due to lack of extra time)...but this is one I've been wanting to do for a long time and once Hasbro blessed us with the Mudflap repaint I seen a mold and base color I could work with to make Grapple... The front half of his cab clips onto his chest while the other half of the cab forms his blaster...the crane portion clips on the back in robot mode (like in G1)...this also makes for extra stability as the hook end touches the ground even with the feet (so the flip-open heels are not needed)...with this custom I tried some different painting techniques and experimented with my new light box...anyway hope you enjoy...
wow this is sweet! really channels the grapple vibe nicely and you got rid of the cabs hanging off his forearms which is awesome!
Very nice work, and clever mods. I would have thought, though, that you'd paint the cab to match his main shell colour; that'd unify his vehicle mode colourscheme and also make his chest match the G1 in robot mode...
Wow, that looks great! Good enough for me to almost not mind the parts-forming involved with getting the cab onto the chest and the crane onto his back... but hey, what else can you do? It's better than having them hanging off the arms. Solid all around. I sort of agree with Ramrider's suggestion about painting the cab, but at the same time, the white looks pretty good to me too. The yellow would just be more G1 accurate, but I'm not sure if it would look any better. I like! zmog
Keep the white cab. It breaks up the body and keeps him from looking like a giant pencil. Nice job. What'd you use to mount the cab and crane - magnets?
This is the exact reason why I didn't paint the cab...I battled back and forth whether to do so but chose to leave it white for the contrast...(that and the headache of trying to match the yellow perfectly)...giant pencil... But thanks for the positive comments everyone...feels good to be submitting in the Radicons thread again... And the mounting of the cab/crane was done with trusty o'l lego pieces...I've used them from the beginning and haven't found anything yet that works better...
I think your choices are nice for this guy. I see that either way you go on painting the cab still retaining all that you need to have the "essence" of Grapple. Great work . . . and, btw, we're glad that you're posting here in the Radicons It feels good having ya here
That's just awesome. If I knew how to do this I'd totally get this guy as well And I agree with keeping the cab white, it help keeps him from looking too plain.
Fair play. The white still looks good; I just thought it was worth throwing out there. And Lego. Brilliant.
interesting. I like it, even though I'm not a big fan of parts-formers. He looks really good this way. nice job.
Sick! i was going to get Mudflap(Another 1) and turn him into my movie Hook but it wouldnt balance out with my "surprise" but great idea using him 2 make a Classics Grapple! Good Joob
