Destrons is the Japanese name for the Decepticons (the Autobots are referred to as Cybertrons). Wouldn’t Destrons be a more apropriate English title for the evil robot army?

Absolutely yes If you grew up with the Japanese continuity. Since I grew up with the North American lines, no.

Decepticons is the name for a reason... Because they use Deception against their enemies.
Destrons says nothing to me... Its just Destrons.

But feel free to say it if you will, it all matters on what you like better.

Could be a cool name for a subgroup though. and I get Destron-Destroy, but not as good as Decepticon imho

    I actually love that idea.
It should totally be a sub group.

Well, seeing as "Decepticons" came first, I can understand it's prevalence. Also, yeah, the whole "in disguise" aspect has been set aside for the Decepticons in a lot of cases, especially recently.

That being said, I've always figured both were acceptable, and essentially interchangable. I mean, saying one isn't appropriate is like saying "It's not a futon! It's a hideaway bed!"

i've always liked Destrons as a subgroup. And 'Destrongers' and all the other forms. I'm actually going to some of those myself in stuff i plan to write.

But the main faction is and always will be Decepticon.

I kind of like Destron myself, and I grew up on Decepticon. Still, I like Megatron's justification of the latter name in "Orion Pax." One thing I would kill to see would be "Decepticon" originating from the insult levied at a rogue city-state's secret police, or a terrorist group, only for said groups to take it and run with it as a "screw you" to the people insulting them.

Decepticons is my preferred term, since I grew up being familiar with the American G1 series.

I always looked at Destron as short for Decepticon. Almost like calling an Autobot a Bot. The name Cybertron is also like "Earthling" in it's use. Autobot and Decepticon are the formal titles.

I hate Cybertrons/Destrons, Decepticons and Autobots are considerably superior, which is why TakTom has submitted to it.

If "Autobot" is short for Autonomus Robotic Organism, what is "Decepticon" short for? Destron just sounds like a weapon or something Destro from G.I.Joe would have developed.

I grew up with "Predacons", so...

"Destron" is a bit short for my liking. I prefer 3-4 syllable faction names. And calling the evil robots that transform into everyday things an alteration of the word "deception" is a lot more interesting and appropriate than calling them an alteration of "destruction" which is what virtually all villains do anyway.
Of course, it does raise the question as to how the good guys are any better when they are just as deceptive...

'Decepticon' all the way. I'm only cool with 'Destron' if it were an actual character's name, or a place name. A Decepticon leader called Destron, if you will, or a Decepticon base called Moonbase Destron.

Decepticons. It's a more fitting name. The Decepticons are, first an foremost, decievers, liers and cheats. Destrons sounds like a stupid "try to sound cool" name a child would come up with.

    Or "Deceptive Constructs."
