The optics of a Decepticon are red, they all started out 'good', with blue eyes. Then when Megatron turned against his brothers (or however the story goes), did his optics just turn red? A flick of a switch on their back? They inject themselves with something to change optic color?

I realize I'm probably over thinking this, and when it comes to Transformers, well you shouldn't do that, but I'm just curious to see others thoughts, to see what theories you have, and what you think.

The closest I recall of the 'switch' was when The Fallen first talked to Megatron, The Fallen gave Megatron some of his power to survive. After that, Megatron had red eyes, and a little past that was when Megatron created the Decepticons. No explanation was ever given to the rest of the Decepticons.

Optical filters to better process sensory combat data. The Autobots weren't built for military purposes, so they don't have them, unless they install them later.

Or maybe you have to switch your eye color or they don't let you wear a decepticon sigil.

IMO it's due to the Decepticons being infused with dark energon.

Well, actually frenzy has blue eyes and devastator has green.

But I see your point and I gave it some thought myself before. On that same note, Why are decepticons all pointy-like? Do they just start sprouting random pointy bits when they choose to be a decepticon?

I understand it works on a visual level, but it never made that much sense to me. It´s actually one of the reasons I love megatron's new earth alt mode, it doesn't look downright evil

Could be a corruption thing, like how an xbox light will go red when its dead somehow. Devastators were green because...he was a mish mash of everyone and frenzys were blue because...he hacked them for hiimself while being undercover :)

My theory is they probably just "pick" their own eye color. They can change their appearances; for example, Bumblebee turns his hand/arm into a gun, or can just weaponize himself in vehicle mode. However they are able to do that, they do that to change eye color.

All Decepticons (expect Megatron, Devastator and Frenzy, iam forgetting someone?) began with red eyes. Megatron eyes became red after the fallen corrupted him

Yes 7, but there's only 1 who had a sinister purpose of power, so it's weird that all of them have the red eyes.

yes, but then again all of them began as neutrals, i dont think red eyes have to do with the fact they turned evil later they were jsut created with them.

Jetfire had red eyes before realizing the fallen true plans

Jetfire was first likely bad, and that's literally why he's a decepticon. Tho you might be right about the Prime fact.

Long story short; Blue good, red evil! G1 wanted to make a clear distinction between good and bad guys, which is where the eye color started. The best explaination I've seen is in the novel WFC:Exodus. The Gladiators Megs fought and recruited had red optics since they were miners(Megs included), that needed them to see better in low-light conditions. They kept them as part of the signiture look, I guess.
