in your honest opinion do you think the Decepticons are just misguided robots (they are not evil, but they only picked/are follwoing the wrong path/choices) or you consider them to be evil?

A little bit from column A, a little bit from column B.

TFA, however, gave us Cons that, with the exception of Starscream and Oil Slick, cannot truly be considered evil at all.

    Evil with a purpose.

Decepticons understand their nature better, that they are warriors, fighters, and to deny that nature is to deny themselves. If that makes them evil, then they will be evil.

    But they won't be wrong.

I think they are a bit of both. The leaders are evil but a lot of the lower ranks are misguided.

Mixture of both. I wouldn't call Decepticons such as Thundercracker evil

Depends on the individual, because for every con with a tragic past, warrior with a strong code of honor, and unsure minion along for the ride, there are brutal thugs, self-focused ambitious conquerors, and straight-out homicidal maniacs.

Evil. You don't conquer, attempt genocide, try to establish tyrannical autocracies/oligarchies, and try to enslave/exterminate an innocent people otherwise. The kinds of things they do are inherently evil, and why I never have sympathy for the Decepticons.

A mixture of both. Megatrons seem to start out "misguided," but grow corrupt through the pwoer they accrue. Lugnut is, of course, incredibly misguided. Hell, we have two Starscreams who were more misguided than anything - Armada Starscream wasn't sure of his place in the universe and just wanted to make Megatron proud, while Movie 'Screamer wants to take over so the 'Cons can follow someone whO ISN'T a dangerous psychopath. Even Movie Megs can be considered misguided, given his attitude in DOTM.

On the other hand, you have guys like Prime Megatron, UT Megatron, and Animated Megatron - they may have ONCE been just misguided, but they went off the slippery slope into irredeemable evil. And then you have characters who are TRULY evil; Airachnid, Flatline, Tarantulas...

Most other 'cons fall in between, since a lot of them (The Insecticons, Skywarp, the Battlechargers) are kinda dumb, mean-spirited thugs.

I'm gonna go with this one. If the Decepticons were more like the ones in TFA and had a concept of Mercy, Compasion, and legit loyalty they would be A LOT more righteous.

I'll copy an essay I wrote about the subject in another thread.

To put it shortly, the "lower troops" start out as misguided people who sided with the 'Cons for one reason or another, but as the War drags on, most of them become killers at heart, slowly being consumed by violence.

The higher 'Cons [and by "higher" I mean everyone who isn't "Random Soldier 01"] are mostly psychotic, because to achieve said rank, they needed either to be monsters already or to become monsters along the way [due the atrocities required and the bruality of the ideology], you'll find some honorable ones along the way, but generally, the higher the rank, the worst they are, because to get there, they had to fully embrace the genocidal, lunatic side of the ideology.

The Decepticons, as a group, are evil, because their ideology is based on genocide and slavery as number one goals/methods above anything else, as individuals, it depends, the lower troops are misguided fools turning evil as time passes by, the higher troops are Monsters.

Something akin to [guess what] WWII with the Wehrmacht and the SS.

Again: barring the two exceptions I've mentioned above, I've not seen the TFA Cons do anything inherently evil.

They're not evil. They're just living a philosophy that a lesser species doesn't approve of.

Nachtsider: How does Megatron misleading the two Constructicons into joining him, commissioning the kidnap of dozens, if not hundreds of protoforms, field-testing WMDs in a populated city, and trying to claim the Allspark and use it to wield god-like power over his people grab you?

The Autobots outside of the main cast may not have been as good as in other series (one of Animated's biggest mistakes), but the Decepticons sure ain't decent either.

Pravus Prime: And who in the heck gave them the right to determine who the lesser sentient beings are, anyhow?

Agreed. Using Prime as an example: Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Dreadwing, Knockout, and Airachnid are all evil. Steve however is just misguided.

    1. He didn't mislead the Constructicons. He told them the truth. The Decepticons were unjustly driven off Cybertron.

    2. The protoforms were lifeless. That's theft, not kidnapping. And they're a vital resource with which Megatron could multiply his forces. Solid military strategy at work.

    3. His objective was levelling Sumdac Tower. That place was his enemies' base of operations and a legitimate military target.

    4. Megatron was intent on seizing the Allspark in order to reclaim Cybertron for his people. Don't see how that's evil.
