How can they make Shockwave the main villain in Transformers 3? Megatron is the leader. Shouldn't he stay the main villain?

It could be possible that Shockwave will play a major role in the events of TF3.

Simple, Megatron is the leader of the Decepticons and Shockwave is the main villain! What's so hard to grasp about that? It's not like the Autobots couldn't be threatened by someone other than the leader of the Decepticons. It's a big universe out there.

Case in Point... Transformers: The Movie (1986)-
Leader of the Decepticons= Megatron / Galvatron
    Main Villain= Unicron

    Simple.

I won't be surprised if we end up seeing a Megatron/Optimus team up against Shockwave in this one.

Bit weird to team up with someone who killed you before though. Reminds me of when Op came back in the cartoon and teamed up with Galvatron to find the alloy in The Return of Optimus Prime.

My guess is that like various G1 continuities, Megatron left Shockwave in charge of the Decepticons on Cybertron when he left.

Hopefully TF3 will reveal what's gone down on Cybertron in the few thousand years that the Transformers from the first two movies have been gone; possibly even seeing a three-way power struggle between Megatron, who feels there is no command but his ("even in death"), Starscream, who's been looking to usurp Megs since day-one, and Shockwave, who's grown comfortable in the role of Decepticon Commander and doesn't wish to relinquish it.

Of course this is a Bay movie so we'll probably just get two seconds of crappy exposition and then three hours of explosions instead...

Bay has a tendency for sharing only partial facts never really giving full details. He prefers the audience, or fans to guess and entertain themselves wondering how to connect his bit and peices of teases....

We know so little about the Bayverse...so prepare to be surprised...

Megs and Prime are both killed and then the fans will devour Bay!

Perhaps since Shockwave turns into a cannon, perhaps he's some world destroying cannon Megatron intends to use against Earth?

Not what Bay was saying last year when he told us, "You have so much of it wrong." about what we knew about ROTF.

Maybe Shockwave and Megatron are team ups, but as a new character, Shockwave's gonna be gettin more press, since everyone knows Megatron's coming back.

^^ This. I'm mildly disappointed that Starscream most likely won't get his due shine. They should have focused on the established characters and developed them, instead of adding a new main character major player.

I hope they're not going to make Shockwave be ''The Fallen'' of Transformers 3.

Correct. USA Today said Shockwave has taken over Cybertron in Optimus and Megatron's absence.

I have to agree that being a main villain doesn't mean that the character must also be the leader of the bad guys.

I think it could be the case that they are calling him a main villain to say that we will gets lots of time with the character in the movie. We've had characters show up like Soundwave who really didn't do all that much so by saying main villain that means expect action out of this character.

What his role will be is anyone's guess since the movies don't exactly follow the cartoons, comic books or old toy bio stuff.

I thought shockwave was like the cybertronian grim reaper in the original comic. I was always scared of that image of him accompanied by the words "THEY ARE ALL DEAD" laser carved into the wall behind him.

All I ask is to see at least two good scenes with Soundwave, Megatron and Starsream like soilders... and maybe Shockwave too, depends how expensive that will be.

I think Shockwave could be usurping Megatron's command and has turned a large mass of Decepticons and maybe even some Autobots to his cause but he continues to assume the role of Megs' faithful assisstant.

Once the Autobots arrive to Cybertron they could get caught in a massive 3 way battle.

    Just a thought.
