the original g1 instructions were for right-side up. the cartoon did it upside down, thus, again, creating controversy.

That's a good idea, I thought of that also, but I wasn't sure whether they would fit without bits of the symbol underneath sticking out.

    Right side up.

If the plane's flying at you, they're right side up, and when he's in robot mode, they're right side up.

The only time they'd be upside down is if you're behind the jet.

I like em upside down... I feel like it kinda shows how he's still a decepticon, but he doesn't like the way things are run. :)

But they look better in jet mode right side up as well. When you look at his aesthetic, the con symbol fits better that way. More aerodynamic looking.

G1 accuracy wise, they should be upside down. Thats how the cartoon was, as well as the comics I believe.

Aesthetic wise, Right side up works better. It demonstrates Starscream isn't a Complete fool.....

    So yeah....Upside down :D

What he said. The only reason I've ever seen to do them upside down is if one is a stickler for cartoon accuracy.

Right-side up. There is no "upside-down" in jet-mode.

Right side up. So it matches the nosecone symbol.

Way I figure it, in jet mode, it depends on whether he's coming or going, so no matter what you do they'll look right from one direction and upside down from the other. So you may as well put them right side up in robot mode.

This poll is close lol, umm I am leaning toward right side up now :lol . Now the question where to put them, I don't want to cover the rub sign hmm.

Can't you soften the glue with a hair dryer and relocate the rubsign?

Upside down in robot mode is right-side up in jet mode. Go look at a real F-15's wing markings. I put them upside down in robot mode for that reason. IMHO it's more "coincidence" that they are visible in robot mode---they're not designed to be "correct" in that mode, they just happen to be easily visible. (and really, unless you put the insignia way by the tips, they're usually hidden by the arms and null-rays anyways) They are "intended" to look right in jet mode.

There are intl laws/conventions for aircraft markings that everyone follows, you can't just put them on whichever way you want. Right-side up in robot mode means upside down in jet mode, according to how the entire world will define "right side up" for a military jet.

It'd be little different than having a national flag painted upside down on a plane--you just don't do it. You can't "turn the plane around" and say "oh, hey, NOW it looks right". Top/bottom, left/right---all are defined how intl markings etc go. (the most general rule is that the tip of the plane's nose is always top/forward for both fuselage and wing markings---thus, upside down in robot mode)

PS--Classics rubsigns are VERY easy to remove. Get an xacto to get a corner started, then slowly pull it up. Don't try to peel/bend, keep it as flat as possible. I've moved/removed all the Classics rubsigns I have. (and put most of them on old G1 toys that needed replacements!)

(yes, I am very opinionated on seeker wing symbol placement) :)

I doubt Starscream would care if he is fined by the FAA.

I would probably mess it up knowing me, safer leaving it where it is. I mean there arms usually cover the faction sign so I should just put it in the grey area of his wing.

Damn, then doesn't that mean that you use a third option, which would be wing symbols "upside down" in robot mode... but with the nosecone symbol the opposite way up to both the cartoon and the toy instructions?  At least the cartoon and toy both agreed on which way to put the nosecone symbol on, lol.
