Looking back at the Marvel Civil War and how it has been successful through the new video game, has Transformers ever gone into a sort of civil war type story arc?

I think it would be more fitting among the Decepticons. I had a random thought and might make it into a fan fiction, but here it is.

    • Starscream finally makes a move to rebel
    • Megatron and he fight and both get heavily wounded
    • Starscream runs off vowing to return
    • Starscream rallies troops that agree with his cause
    • Most Decepticons are on the fence
    • Starscream leads an attack with a team mainly consisted of Seekers
    • Megatron has a group of his own including Soundwave and Shockwave
    • They fight and the battle moves through the Decepticon camps outward
    • The fighting defiles an artifact dedicated to Primus and he is angered
    • Bad luck is put on both sides and the Autobots are confused to intervene or not
    • Decepticons eventually choose sides based off of Starscream's and Megatron's unique plans of action for the Decepticon campaign
That's all I got so far. Just wondering if anyone thinks this is a good idea or if anyone knows if it has been explored in Transformers yet.

The entire TF mythos is based on a civil war.

Dreamwave started a comic series set on Cybertron during the Civil War called "War Within." They only got two story arcs completed, and were half-way through a third when they went bankrupt. IDW Publishing reprinted the first two story arcs of "War Within" in trade paperback volumes. You should read it if you haven't, as it's awesome!

I would have liked to see a Decepticon Civil War as the premise behind TF3:
-At the end of ROTF have Screamer kill the wounded Megs then take off to build his Seeker army
-At the start of TF3 have Soundwave again lead the effort to get Megs resurrected, only this time he gets rebuilt as Galvatron
-The two sides fight over Earth's Energon resources (or any other excuse to keep them on Earth and have Earth alt modes)
-Autobots intervene because of all the damage and threat to humanity

The Starscream-Megatron conflict as depicted in Animated was more or less a civil war.

You've basically condensed the original marvel comics series into a single storyline there.

And I think that its a bit of a stretch to say Marvel Civil War was hugely successful, at least compared to other summer blockbuster crossover serieses.

More like a series of beatdowns on Starscream. For a civil war to happen, each side would have to have it´s own armies. And no, the Starscream clones don´t count. There only a few of them, hardly a army.

Well I think the events of Cybertron/Galaxy Force count as both Megatron and Starscream basically had their own armies. Starscream even fought every other faction in the show, by himself on some occasion.

Oh and why exactly doesn't the clone army count?

And the last few issues of All Hail Megatron from IDW.

I mean, once you can claim Devastator as being on your side, you actually have a side.

They even did a story that was explicitly about a "Decepticon Civil War" late on in the Marvel Comics. The story was even called "All This And Civil War 2"!

As has been said, you could say that the final issues of All Hail Megatron feature a Decepticon civil war. There's that very nice fight between Megatron and Devastator. Also, Starscream is probably still Decepticon leader in the IDW continuity following Megatron's "death". That has to lead to a hell of a fight when he comes back into the fold.

I was just about to raise this myself. The Marvel comics did a fantastic job of dividing the Decepticons into smaller, feuding factions. Especially comparing the G2 "Decepticons" and the G1 Decepticons, or Megatron's faction and Bludgeon's, and so on. The comics even went as far as having Megatron and Shockwave be rivals.
