Why does the Decepticon symbol look like Soundwave?

And for that matter, who's the Autobot symbol suppose to look like?

General consensus seems to be that the Autobot symbol was based on the Prowl/Bluestreak face.

And to certain extend, Cybertron Vertor Prime's toy bio claims to be the origin of the Autobot symbol.

    I'll go with Prowl/Streak anyday.

When Microman and Diaclone were being brought in for TF, they decided to base the Autobot and Decepticon symbols off of Prowl and Soundwave respectavly. I guess 'cuz they decided they needed symbols for the teams but didn't want to come up with anything brand new that might look too much like something old.

Dunno about Prowl but from what I've read (and I could be WAY off-base since it's been awhile since I've read it), Soundwave was originally supposed to be used at the bad guy leader toy. I won't swear by that, since my memory has been known to be faulty.

Ah, I see. That would've made some sense. I always thought it was weird how the Decepticon symbol had a covered mouth (faceplate?) kinda like Optimus yet the Autobot symbol has a mouth much like.....Megatron had a mouth... Yeah!

Pretty sure I read something about that somewhere too. I do remember reading that the original idea for Transformers was Microman Vs. Diaclone (but than they wouldn't have had very many Decepticons now would they? And the Seekers would have been Autobots... :lolol  :lolol  ).

I never noticed the similarities until TR.Wiki. But as a Transformers art book pointed out, The autobot symbol is humany, while the decepticon symbol is animaly. Also, I think that Autobot symbol good- Round. Decepticon symbol bad- Pointy.

Remember, Round, good. Pointy, bad. That's why Movie Megs looks like he can kill you by poking you.

Yep. Soundwave was originally supposed to be the Decepticon leader, not Megatron. I don't know what screwed that up. Maybe because he was a tape player.
