DC Says F**k Superman | IshTalkers

No Superman movie coming before DC and WB lose most of the rights to the character in 2013.A movie would need to be filmed before 2011 for them not get all sued over it.

Something here stinks Im not sure what is ...are they betting on winning the lawsuit?

On the movie department DC really needs to get in gear.

They've already lost most of the judgments in the lawsuit. The lines are definitively marked. Come 2013, the creators' estates get the most important aspects of the Superman character...And they can do what they wish with those rights.

Doesn't give me much faith in the new DC Entertainment division. You'd think the first thing they'd want to do is get their #1 property back into movie theaters.

DC can really lose the rights to Superman? Man that's crazy. The justice league, JSA and World's Finest and Trinity will all be doomed. :(  :cry

DC losing the rights to Superman?

Wow. It'd be sad if it wasn't so strangely funny.

DC won't lose the rights - rather, they'll license them from the creator's estates for a handsome amount of money. Can you seriously see DC Comics letting Superman slip away from them? No, they'll make a deal, but it might not be to the DC executive's liking.

    This.

Its in nobodys best interests for Superman to go elsewhere, they are both just trying to hose each other as much as possible in the courts before they are forced to finally sit down and talk money.

The creators families would not however be able to use the current superman logo, Jimmy olsen,Kryto, Supergirl, Powergirl, Kytonite(it was actually created in the radio series)the Daily Planet,(it was originally called the Daily Star)have superman fly, heat vison, etc as those were created later and many by other writers and artists. Superman would just be super storng and able to leap tall buildings. Also there are two familes and it would be easier for them to try to get more money from DC than to try to market it themselves. They also wouldn't want to do it because DC would be watching to see if they violated any of DC's own superman rights that were created after the creators left the series. And that would lead to more lawsuits. What they would have is the rights to the name and the original concept from the early segal/shuster issues. Then there is Trademark law which is even more complicated. So either DC will try to buy superman outright, or try for a deal like they have with Wonder Woman and other creator owned properties.

I can honestly say I've never been a fan of the big blue lug. But I doubt we'll see much of a change in how things work with him. Though I do love how the article takes the comments "we have nothing planned at this point" and turns it into "F' you Superman fans". Personally, I would rather there be no movie then a rushed, forced movie.

Maybe DC can start focus on other heroes instead of Superman.

:cry  I just can't believe it. It's like if Toho out of the blue said they didn't want any part of Godzilla anymore. I'm stunned.

There's also year upon years of really bad blood here. I can, in all honesty, seeing the creators' estates simply refusing to negotiate with DC and/or demanding unreasonable fees for use.Even after the lawsuit is over, it'll likely be a long, long time before any deal is hashed out.

It's probably for the best, DC's been leaning on Superman for so long they need something else, especially considering how damned BORING the character is... how do I relate to Mr Perfect Life with every power he could ever need that can't lose a battle cause he can always punch a little bit harder than he did a page before... The character needs a rest, and if it's by force, fine.

Though knowing they can do what they want with the character... it'd be hilarious to see Marvel get the rights to Superman. True, it damages the character greatly to not be in the universe essentially crafted around him, but if the family honestly hates DC that much then it's a viable possibility, especially if Disney back Marvel with that big pocketbook of theirs, they could match any offer DC could ever throw at them.

A little revenge for Captain Marvel? I hate to say it, but it could be a possibility.

How will this whole lawsuit effect the existing Superman merchandise, like toys, TPBs, movies, etc.?
