Wonder Woman is going to hurt her back, lifting while sticking her butt out like that for no reason.

She’s strong enough, she’ll be fine.

Bendis Responds to Criticism Over Action Character's Derogatory Use of 'Autism'

Writer Brian Michael Bendis has come under fire for his derogatory use of the word “autistic,” as spoken by a villain in Action Comics #1002. Readers and comic journalists, some of whom have or work with autistic children, took to Twitter to criticize Bendis, DC Comics and its editors for the usage of the term.

Bendis has since apologized and explained why he used the term, which was uttered by a villain and not Superman himself. The writer tweeted, “Yeah, it is an insult I can’t stand. It has been said to me directly and I put it in my work to illustrate its ugliness from an ugly character who got his immediate comeuppance.”

“I called my editor & told them to make sure it’s not in any other printings,” he wrote. “It won’t be in the trade. Language is tough. When trying to be real you can be real hurtful. You know it wasn’t my intention & you helped me see a way to fix it. Thank you.”

Bad guys can't use offensive words now. It feels paradoxical.

It kinda is. One can't even write a villain acting in a despicable way to show what a despicable person the villain is...

I don’t like Bendis, but if even bad guys can’t be offensive, then what next?

I wonder if they'll alter the digital file, so when you re-download the comic on comixology, you get the altered version.

I read this issue, despite giving up on Bendis Superman only a month ago. Curiosity got the better of me. I thought it was the best Bendis issue so far, mostly because we got back to the newsroom, which plays to Bendis' strengths, and there was no Gargon Zuul or whatever that awful alien character's name is. The idea of a hidden network that monitors Superman's location, takes steps to avoid his super-hearing and whatnot is a good one, although as usual, is not original. Rick Veitch had characters use the exact same strategy against Superman about 15 years ago. And I wasn't crazy about the throwaway character assassination of Guardian, but hey, that's Bendis.

I didn't hate the issue, but I guess I can't say I liked it, either.

Nothing I’ve seen or heard makes me think I’ll enjoy his take on Superman.
Guess I’ll just have to wait it out, and hope he leaves sooner rather than later.

    "That's bendis"

Yea basically. What happened to all that hype about nuclear man? Only to show up and in one page and have his head crushed?

    That's bendis...

And it wasn't even Nuclear Man. It was just a Kryptonian wearing a Nuclear Man outfit. Yeah, Bendis, don't bother coming up with a story or anything. It's not like there's any story potential in nuclear disasters in today's world. Just keep doing your Ragol Gool thing. Why can't I remember that ugly alien character's name? Gorgon Zool? Too boring to remember.

And I like he said, "Challenge accepted!" about using Nuclear Man. "Challenge completely avoided" is more like it.

Reminds me of how he handled Thanos at Marvel - its like he showed up just to get beaten up - little to no development whatsoever.

Morrison finally taking on GL (and writing Hal at that)...this might actually get me back into a comic shop.
