The Intergalactic Highway :: View topic - David Kaye Q&A Answers

David Kaye did a q&a for a beast wars fansite, and in it he confirmed he wasn't in the new Transformers series

    Was this known before?

    Sucks, Kaye is always good.

That would be Bumper Robinson who primarily played Bumblebee.

not a clue, he doesn't mention him, but judging by him saying they wanted a clean slate, I guess they want a new cast all together

Well that sucks, hope they get someone good in to play Prime.

Sucks doubly that DK isn't doing any voices in the new show, he's always very good.

Even his dub work in the UT was good.

I'd be very interested if Cullen ended up doing Prime in the show.

Maybe we'll get some more vintage actors though? Like maybe Casey Kasem has forgiven the franchise now? :D

It's somewhat disappointing that David Kaye isn't in the new series. He has so many voices. He's so versatile, you could probably do a whole new show with just him in the lead villainous and heroic roles.

    But!

We have to keep in mind that this is a new continuity (or at least I think it is). If he returns using one of his established TF voices (young Optimus, Megatron), it might be distracting or inappropriate for this version of Prime or Megatron to sound quite like that. So now that we've ruled out him returning as Megatron or Optimus, we should consider his other voices. Well, I like David Kaye's acting (I really do!!!!), but him not getting a non-Optimus non-Megatron role means they found someone more suited to voicing the character they have in mind. Not necessarily bad news.

Remember when Frank Welker expressed his disappointment in not getting Megatron for TFA but wholeheartedly and warmly approving Corey Burton? That didn't turn out all that bad, now did it? :)

Dang it, David Kaye was the awesomest voice actor for TFA.

    Yes I know "Awesomest" Isn't a word.

Because there's never been a US-based cartoon ever without Optimus Prime (or Primal) in it. And the only Japanese ones without him were late 80s.

Hasbro is all about brand recognition and really hammering home core characters these days. You can guarantee any new show will have Prime, Megs, and Bumblebee at a minimum as stars.
