Dave Cockrum, the artist who helped relaunch the X-Men in 1975 died this morning due to complications from diabetes. He hasn't done much lately, but in the 70s he did a very well-regarded run on Legion of Super-Heroes. After leaving that book he joined Len Wein at Marvel in relaunching the X-Men franchise, which had been running reprints since 1970. Among other things, he was the main creator behind Storm, Nightcrawler, and Colossus. He had two runs on Uncanny X-Men, from 1975-77 and again from 1981-83. Most recently he was going to contribute the art to a Joss Whedon story in Giant-Size X-Men #3, but had to drop out because of health problems. He was an extremely talented artist, and it's safe to say he'll be missed.
