You just like it because dark books are easier to color and require less lighting effects. That is what we mean by "dark" here, right?
As long as you abandon your theory that Marvel is only doing it because of the movie "The Dark Knight" ... Batman has been called that *FOREVER*, and I doubt Marvel even needs to worry about DC overcoming them in anything, seeing as DC has had "The Dark Knight" and ... well, just that, as it's only real successful movie over the last 5 years. And no. Watchmen was NOT successful at $103 million. I don't even think it made back what it spent to make it.
This is absolutely true. I definitely remember a statement from Marvel that was something to the effect of not finding it necessary to make their stories "darker" as a business response to the success of "The Dark Knight" film. If anything they're going in the oppositte direction with their decision to no longer produce R rated movies under the Marvel license. As much as I loved Watchmen, Kickback is right. $103 million does not absolve the amount spent to make the movie at all. For Marvel, Punisher Warzone, did even worse I think (although I have never been a fan of the Punisher). I definitely threw that Dark Knight marketing comment out there quite loosely and based solely on a column I remember reading regarding the next Superman movie being written with a "darker" storyline, which I now question the validity of.
It cost about $150 million to make and as a result WB is also going the Marvel route by sticking with PG-13 movies according to this:Thanks, 'Watchmen': Warner Bros. To Steer Clear of R-RatedSuperheroes - Get The Big Picture -
some other ideas on who could be the Black Queen is Selene...cant be Polaris, aint she somewhere in space... Daken as Wolverine is a definite...his claws tell it all. if that is Exodus, im happy...they aint running around in that crappy looking costume he did in the last time he showed up (think it was a Annual or something)...and when did Cloak have hair... i dont think its Namor...he hates Shaw...can't see them teaming.
The last time I saw Exodus, he went head to head with Nate Grey, aka X-Man (you know, from AOA) and it was pretty hellish down in the Arctic. Or maybe it was up in Russia. I don't know. But it was like the ultimate psi-battle. Exodus was such an under-used character. He was like Shockwave to Megatron, to Magneto (in an Animated and G1 Cartoon sense).
last time Exodus was around was actually was during the (crap imo) X-MenL Legacy acr/title....right after Xavier got shot... i miss Nate...i really like him til they made him lamEMO (the Shockwave or whatever it was called)
He's also part of the Dark Illuminati. I love the fact Namor is on the team. They NEVER bring up the fact that he's actually a mutant.
The story leading up to his death was pretty epic, actually. It was determined that because he didn't have the techno-organic virus that Strife created, his telekinesis and telepathy were completely un-checked and literally consuming him from the inside out. He was a living, ticking time-bomb, and also the most powerful mutant on Earth. Hence why Apocalypse wanted to use him for his new body, but Cyclops, his "this-reality" version of his AOA father, chose to sacrifice himself instead, both to save his alter-reality son but to also insure Apocalypse didn't get the STRONGEST BODY EVER and dominate the Universe. X-Man could have been amazing, but sales weren't strong and the editors obviously felt having two versions of Cable running around were hurting BOTH characters so they stuck to the better-selling and more well-known version of the character.
