One month before the release of the new Dark Shadows movie, on a Friday the 13th, Jonathon Frid; the original Barnabas Collins has died. Jonathan Frid, played Barnabas Collins on 'Dark Shadows,' dead at 87 | masslive.com
I am shock of the news that Frid has passed away. I remember seeing him in the television movie "The Devil's Daughter". I remember reading one time after Dark Shadows ended, Frid wanted to get out of the horror genre to play different movie roles. But it never happened.
Sorry to hear this, he was occasionally doing big finish audio continuations of Dark Shadows. I have been enjoying what I have been seeing of his work as Barnabas in the old Darkshadows soap.
Not just Nick. EVERY series regular on that show was offed in the last season, with the exception of Lacroix.
For realz??? *sees the link* Oh man, what terrible timing. Jonathan. Please forgive me, but maybe he saw the movie.
Glad to hear it, he should have been, only fair and nice thing to do. Do you know if he liked that it was going to be a campy comedy? Read in the Frid link that David Selby has a cameo too..maybe they did like the idea.
No idea, but there are pics with him and Depp and you can tell Depp is starstruck. He was his childhood hero according to interviews.
the sad part is, Johnny depp will be in a film with a little girl, who's played a much better vampire then he will be during this film.
It's a comedy? Depp looks entirely too made up. Burton has over done it this time. He got Sleepy Hollow right nut he made this a comedy?
So, it released today. I haven't seen it, but reviews are divided: some are saying it's a great tribute to the 1960s goth soap, others are calling it an utterly pointless melodrama. Has anyone seen it, please? What was it like?
I've opted out of seeing it, being so disgusted with the trailers, so I can't say how the full movie is. This is one of those movies I may watch at some point......with my BFF and a couple of bottles of the good stuff for us to make our way through it.
I agree it looks silly compared to it's source material. But I'm morbidly curious, due to my liking of the source material. So yeah. I previewed the score on Amazon, and it doesn't look like it even uses the Dark Shadows theme, which is also a bummer. Lara Parker seems to like the movie though: ‘Dark Shadows’ movie casts spell on original Angelique - BostonHerald.com
I had my reservations about this film due to the overly silly trailer, but having just come back from seeing it, I have to say it was really good.
I just got back, I had good hopes going into this but unfortunately this was bad all the funny parts I've already seen in the previews I almost fell asleep at one part and the ending was WAY too predictable sorry, I wanted to enjoy it, but didn't
