Kind of surprised that TF3 and Real Steel beat out a lot more critic-friendly big-effect movies, like Planet of the Apes, Captain America, and First Class.

And, yeah, it has no chance of winning. Hugo's up for Best Picture, so it'll probably sweep the technical categories. When the first movie was nominated it lost to Golden Compass, so you know the Academy tends to go for the soft touch.

I'm gonna predict the outcome: it will win an oscar for sound editing...and bayverse fans will see that as proof that it had the best script, the best actors, the best director, was the best movie of the year, etc, etc.

This is the only things that this stupid movie can get. Maybe it will get more razzies.
In this case, I prefer Visual Effects for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Film is not about visual effects and Bayformers have no sence to be good, because everything alse is just dorky comedy for teens. Even figures from DotM are bad.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes will win best visuals, I'm not even going to get my hopes up. Other than that, only TWO nominations for original song???

Congratulations to the artists involved with all of these movies! This is a great achievement for some really great work! Kudos. :thumbs2:

And then three minutes later when it doesn't win the VFX oscar, there will be the great wailing and gnashing of teeth as the Academy is labelled as "HATERS". :lol

i consider it an honor to be even nominated for any category. that way they at least get the honorable mention on the show when they are reading off the nominees. but ya, if its up against hugo, its never going to win in a million years. hugo is golden compass without the polar bears... and alot of other stuff, but still.

Andy Serkis should have been nominated for his acting in Rise of the POTA, motion capture or not. It will win the effects Oscar as a form of saying "sorry, but here you go instead". Either that, or Hugo as the academy loves Scorcese's films, whether they're good or not.

Either way, DOTM has zero chance.

Not expecting it to win, though I'd love to be pleasantly surprised.

On a related note, I am surprised (and a bit pissed) that HP7 Part 2 was so thoroughly glossed over in just about every category. It certainly deserved a Best Picture/Director nod more than about half the actual nominees (IMO, of course) but not even Best Adapted Screenplay?

    ...what the fuck is Hugo?

I'm dead serious. I never heard of that movie up until this point in time.
It's always the movie that nobody has ever heard of yet is nominated for nearly every oscar that ends up winning a shit ton of awards, and everybody forgets about that film in little more than a year.

DOTM should win.. but it won't. i've seen the harry potter movies.. the visual effects are good... but not as good as they are in transformers.
