I had an extended play with a DOTM Ironhide yesterday and I have to say, I'm hugely underwhelmed. The Mechtech hasn't caused the actual toy to be downsized too much (unlike others in the DOTM line) but a generally frustrating transformation, coupled with those arms, has put me right off this particular toy, sadly.

I am not planning on buying any movie 3 toys (except for the recently revealed Shockwave to be my Generations Shockwave stand in) and this figure isn't doing anything to sway me. A complete meh.

I do like Peaughs reviews though, just the figure that sucks :)

could you show him with the RotF Ironhide arm-cannons? (not the Jungle Recon, the basic one). those were the best rendition of his arm-cannon.

Regardless of the arms, I love the look of this guy.

Huh. I wonder if this is a repeat of deluxe Ironhide, where there's a special trick to making it lock together well. And that's really all the range the shoulderjoint has? It can't transform more, to give it a bit more range of motion? :(

It's not a matter of range of motion, but how the shoulders attach. Even with nothing surrounding it, range of motion is the same.

Agreed, people have been waiting for a new voyager Ironhide and they'll wish they just stuck with that one.

No, seriously the arms suck that hard, there is absolutely nothing that can be done to redeem them. it's partially transformation, partially having the elbow joint attached in the middle of the forearm. He is extremely disappointing.

I did a simple mod the other day to fix the chest.

Basically, you unscrew the U-bar under the hood, shave all post ridges to allow inward movement for the light grey pieces to which the U-bar is attached to (to help the hood halves spread apart a little more), you widen the tab the U-bar is supposed to be attaching to with superglue and voilà, nice and tight chest halves that don't overlap or try to pop off the tab all the time. It might sound a bit complicated but it's really easy to do.

Bought. I'll be replacing his dumbass weapons with the first movie Ironhide's though.

    I'm really impressed by him.

And down the drain goes my hope for a decent Voyager Ironhide toy.

Guess I'll just have to live with the great, if small, Deluxe.

Honestly if not for the dumb arms and shoulders, he would be amazing. Just looking at his proportions legs to head (minus arms) he looks superior to all the others. It's a shame when they were so close.

the figure is Ok but that gun is horrible. I'm not feelin the DoTM figures so far. Hopefully the ultimate prime looks better.

the legs look really nice, too bad the figure suffers so much because of the chest design.

I'm still not impressed with movie figures. I'm just so used to the old robot modes, that I can get used to the more techno-robotic modes used in the movies. However, I've always been a sucker for accurate and realistic vehicle modes. The vehicles just don't make it worth buying for me though. I went nuts and bought them all when the first movie debuted, but the more I examined them, the more I disliked them. Not my cup of tea, but good for you guys who like them!

Damn, that's a shame. :(  But since the elbow is a balljoint, maybe it'll be possible to mod the original voyager's arms to give them a socket that will fit it. Only problem then though might be that the arms are too big, or at least sit low enough to look funny...
