So whenever anyone asks me "What is your favorite movie" I have to ignore the fact that I loved Transformers(2007) so much and just admit that my favorite movie of all time is Dark City. This site spoke to the writer/director and they are planning a limited rerelease of the movie in theaters, with new effects, longer cuts and a revised score, which of course would be followed by a DVD and BluRay release.

I don't mind effects being tweaked, so long as they don't George Lucas it, but the prospect of getting a clean version of this movie on BluRay with a new score definitely sounds like some of the coolest news I have heard in a while.

I remember going to see that in the theater, but then was bored to tears.

Maybe I will like it more 10 years later?

One of my favorite movies of all time.

Much better than The Matrix, if you ask me. I've always delighted in the fact that some of the sets for Dark City were reused in The Matrix.

Love the movie, but they need to drop the opening "gee we think the audience is too stupid to understand this" narration. As I recall there were a bunch of good SF films that came out around then, including Strange Days and the Matrix.

Put me on the "enjoyed this movie" list! Ebert's commentary on the DVD is great too!

That what I always tell folks. Both movies involve people living in world that is being controlled by others, and both involve a hero, that once he "Figures it out" can manipulate the world however he chooses.

I love the deep Noir look for DC more though. Glad to see some other fans here.

If anyone cares, check this out. I made this video in college right after DC came out. The video uses the music from the Trailer to DC, and is inspired by the look of the movie. I got an A in the project, heheh, but then again, that professor gave everyone As.

Whaaaaat? Crazy talk. Fuckin' love this movie.

Dunno about the new effects though. If it's not too intrusive or makes some of the CGI less CGIy, that's ok. In any case, I'll go check it out in the theater and buy the DVD for sure.

Hell, and huge elements of the plot also.

I loved Dark City. And as mentioned, Strange Days. Another good one around that time was eXisTenz. Nothing groundbreaking there, but the sheepdog at the end was the shit.

You really didn't need to be so specific. Jennifer Connelly is hot -- end of story. :D

You are incorrect, sir. Dark City is awesome.

Yay for longer cuts, but not sure how I feel about new effects and score. I'll give it a shot, though.

Strange days had an incredible concept. And the murders/crimes in that movie were "F-Up" The device allowed you to relive memories or experience someone else's thoughts, so this guy would rape and murder women and put the device on them while he did it. That was a unique twist on the bad guy's perverseness.

Gotta add my love for Dark City here. I worked at a movie theater when it came out, so I must've watched it five or six times over the course of the month or two it was there. Somehow it just never occurred to me to pick it up on DVD, though, so its re-release is welcome. Especially if they ditch the "spoil the entire film's premise in the first two minutes" opening narration.
