RIP. I've only watched the Indycar series a few times, but he was one of my favorites.

as much as people say that we watch car races only for the crashes, it's stuff like this that makes me disagree with that statement 100%.

I flipped the race on shortly after the crash, and judging by the way everyone was acting,I knew that it was bad.It took me back to 2001 when Earnhardt died. You know that something like this could happen at any time, but it's still shocking when it actually does happen.

    RIP Dan Wheldon.

RIP Dan Wheldon. I am not a big race fan but any lose of life is sad. Reminds me of Earnhardt passing.

You should have seen the race broadcast then. They were saying all the same things they did right after Earnhardt crashed...it was all very inauspicious.

    RIP Dan. We'll miss you.

Watching that yesterday took me right back to February 2001, when Dale was killed...

So sad to see it again, and yet Mr Wheldon died doing what he loved...

^ happened on my home turf too, what a way to enter the record books :(

My blog has a link to a great piece by toby moody and schwantz does him justice too, cant remember the site tho.

I lost a cousin recently too who reminds me of marcos situation. My cuz was the least accomplish of 2 siblings but had a big heart. He was brash n hot headed but at the same time very caring n gregarious. Lived by the edge by his definition, an offshore welder who liked to drive fast. He was road racing n hit a bus head on. The engine went up in flames but autopsy revealed he was dead by then due to severe cranial trauma. Always crossed path with his dad my uncle but old man was so forgiving of him. Hes almost a copy of my younger brother who race supermoto n been in spills that scared the crap out of us: theyre knuckleheads but theyre loveable knuckleheads.

Anyways, Paolos interview reminded me so much of my unc disposition at my cuz funeral. My aunt passed last year so without having to console the wife he was so composed and accepting...

    Heres to the knuckleheads.

All of a sudden, auto racing seems more dangerous. I mean, I know it isn't. It's always been like that, but so many bad accidents have happened lately. Did anyone see Regan Smith's wreck at Talladega? It reminded me of Earnhardt in 2001.

I thought the same thing. His crash looked exactly the same as Earnhardt's crash,he turned down a little and then went straight up into the wall.Luckily they have the safer barrier and the Hans device.I only wish they had those safety precautions back in 2001 because then Dale would probably still be here.
