Ok, I'm sorry but that is a load of crap. Music shouldn't have to follow a specific set of arbitrary rules to belong to a genre. Music should be about innovation and pushing those boundaries otherwise it would all sound the same. I'm not really a fan by any stretch, but Mumford does a great job at combining folk music and independent rock, and I think they are really onto something musically.
I only watched a couple of minutes and it was all I could stand. Glad I didn't waste any more time on the show.
Okay then how many rock groups do you know use a ukulele and I couldn't really think of anything that I could use as an example as to why Mumford & Sons isn't a rock group, they still aren't rock.
Last I checked Folk Rock is still, I dunno, a derivative of Rock. I'm not for sure what subgenre of Rock you're referring to, but there's a lot of flavors. Its like Baskin Robins yo.
So one song that a band uses a ukulele disqualifies them from being a rock band? There are many bands that uses out of the ordinary instruments in their songs. Since the Red Hot Chili Peppers uses Kazoo's in a song does it take away their rock band status? Does the same apply to Metallica for having a full symphony orchestra on one of their tours? As Dinobot Nuva said "there's lot's of flavors" in rock. There are many sub-genres to rock. Maybe you should explore the history of rock and it's plethora of sub-genres before posting about what's rock and what's not.
cradle of filth uses pianos and violins among many other instruments. Not that I listen to them but I consider them rock. One of the many flavors as pointed out.
Wow, way too much drama in this piece as I said elsewhere, with me and music it's easy, I listen to what speaks to me at the time, whatever the genre, whatever the era. That's what its all about, what makes (the generic) you feel that desired feeling, anything else is in the way.
I know rock music is like the 37 flavors of ice cream, there's so many kinds of it. But there are just some of those subgenre's that I can't like stare at with a straight and call it rock music, Folk Rock being one of them. I guess I make that argument cause it sounds nothing like the kind I like to listen to, which ranges from Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit & Hollywood Undead to All That Remains, Five Finger Death Punch & Metallica.
