Last night were the Billboard Music Awards, or as I prefer to call it, "Screw Real Rock Night", Mumford and Sons & Train won Rock awards. I wouldn't even consider either of those groups as rock groups. What I consider rock groups and music, is groups that have their songs played on rock radio stations, not pop music stations, like Mumford and Sons & Train. Add to that Bieber won Best New Artist... SINCE WHEN IS BEING AROUND FOR 3 OR 4 YEARS COUNT AS BEING A NEW ARTIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why would you want good rock music to be recognized by the mainstream anyway? Leave it in the underground where it belongs, kept safe from the yuppies and the teen princesses.
At least give them more recognition, like actually show the nominees and awards acceptance speech, not tell us that so and so won earlier tonight.
All music awards shows are complete jokes. They're popularity contests; they have nothing to do with talent or quality.
Yup, it's all about which labels can pay the most to get more airplay. As far as modern popular music goes, I'm just glad that autotuning bullshit is finally starting to fade away, I might actually start listening to the radio again.
I think that's a little obvious if you see how many nominations Katy Perry and Justin Beaver, I mean Bieber, had.
Train's actually been around, for what, a decade? Their biggest hit was, IIRC, Drops of Jupiter, around 2000-ish, I think... They're ok, but def. a pop/rock, not hard rock feel... I would definitely not call them a "rock band", but they have done some rock songs in the past... if that distinction makes any sense?
haha, this. Metal never gets the proper recognition they deserve and when they do, it's some bullshit band that is hardly even metal. I might watch an awards show for the fashion but I don't bother paying attention the actual awards and horrible winners.
after 2 minutes in and seeing cee low green fly upside-down, we immediately changed the channel to something more interesting and informative; Sister Wives.
Train + Ukulele = Not a rock band Mumford & Sons + No Electric Guitars = Not a rock band DO THE MATH MUSIC INDUSTRY!
Mumford and Sons are played on rock stations where I live. They may be more folk than rock music, but they're damned talented and deserve the accolades they get. If you have to have electric guitars to be rock musicians, does Elvis count? Do the Eagles?
I have to agree with this. I've not really heard Mumford and Sons, but having such a strict and narrow view of what should be considered "rock" is fairly silly.
