So, at the beginning of the year I got Universe Sideswipe. Loved the way he was different from Sunstreaker.

Then I noticed the flaws. A door panel that refuses to fit tightly in vehicle mode. A weirdly sawed off bicep piece. And a crooked headlight. When I fiddled around with the headlight, it eventually got loose and fell off. And then I lost it.

So a TFW2005 member agreed to trade me a new MOSC Sideswipe for some Robot Heroes. Package arrived today.

Door panel fits tightly in vehicle mode. Plus.

No sawed off bicep piece. Plus.

Headlight still crooked. Yikes. Well, from the other Sideswipes I've seen in stores, this appears to be a widespread problem.

And then comes the bummer: The same door panel that refused to sit tight in vehicle mode on the other Sidpeswipe is EXTREMELY LOOSE on this one's arm. Not only that, it JUST FELL OFF. So I was desperately looking for a way to reattach the screw.

That's when I discovered that the screw HAS NO SCREW THREAD. It's just a pin with a dummy screw head. WHAT THE HELL.

I'd like to point out that in no way do I blame the member who sent me this Sideswipe. The door problem is impossible to see in package. I blame whichever factory error screwed this one up.

sounds like that particular flaw actually isn't from has/tak's factories, thread-less screws is a hardware problem, and i don't think they make their own screws, most companies don't, it is much cheaper to get someone else to make them

I had exactly the same thing on my BayFormers Landmine. You have to wonder why the person 'screwing' it in doesn't notice it's not getting any tighter.
Still, at least it's an easy fix with a proper screw. :)

Wow, never even heard of any of those issues with 'swipe. Especially the headlight deal. Hopefully the upcoming PCP won't have any of those problems

I still have yet to get 2.0 Sideswipe.

I think I have been convinced not to.

The door on my Sideswipe's left arm is loose as hell. If not angled exactly right, it just flips & flops around. The head is also a lot looser than Sunstreaker's, and it's near impossible to peg in his shoulder canon. Not only is the difference in QC extremely noticeable between these two figures, but I've even convinced myself that Sideswipe is made of a lesser grade plastic. Hard to pinpoint, but it just feels... different.

How do you figure, considering that the people on this thread, have something to say that is a "negative" againsnt the figure.

Also since I have Sunstreaker, aren't I just twisting the torso around, and turning the head. Sounds like I am not missing on anything

The thread is now 16 posts long, clearly the people with a gripe about the figure don't make any kind of majority to say that Sideswipe is a figure not worth getting.

But to the OP, I have 3 Sideswipes (one displayed, one getting Breakdown'd, and one still on the card) and I haven't had ANY of those problems. I think it's ridiculous to blame the manufacturor for something that's such a roll of the dice like buying toys. All you have to work with is what you see through the bubble. You may get a loose joint or two, paint splotches could be elsewhere not so noticable from the way it's packaged, parts could be missing that you again wouldn't notice from it's packaged state.

It's a roll of the dice with toys. You don't get samples or tests with the figure you're going to buy unless it's second hand. You drew the short stick, simple as that. I'm sorry you did, but you really can't be blaming a company like Hasbro that puts out tens of thousands of the same figure for the two you got that happened to have very minor defects. There's no sense in that.

For the record: I have now finished swapping parts and I have one 99% "good" Sideswipe and one junker. :)

^ All versions of this mold that I own (5 total) have those bevels on their biceps. I don't know if it's a flaw, but it certainly does not cause any problems for me. No door or headlight problems either, although the bracelet that the doors attach to tend to be loose.

    .....

I just noticed that both my Sideswipe's superchargers have incomplete paintjobs.

Right piece, both versions: Both halves of the side are fully painted. Only the underside is unpainted (which I guess is normal).

Left piece, version 1: Only the upper half of the side is painted. The lower half is unpainted.

Left piece, version 2: Both halves of the side are unpainted.

    Ok, your right.

All that I said was I am not convinced to get him now.

I don't see how that was bad.
