I love reading debates on this topic but, in all honesty, I've never given much thought to their identities. Even when I watched the film, I was just like "Oh dope! New guy!" and from that point on I never cared about the others (their technically dead anyway, right?).
This really is a lovely thread: the pictures, the fantheories, the impotent despair of the sane We should bring up this debate every year around Christmas, it'll be TF Worlds very own festive tradition
The title is a good thing to shout into a microphone at botcon, and have everyone murder each other over which purple guy became another purple guy.
I must be one of the few people who has never cared who became who. Characters A, B, and C were gone, and characters X, Y, and Z are here. That's as far as I thought or cared about it at the time the movie came out. None of the old personalities (as far as they existed in the first place) ever showed through, so it was irrelevant to me. Throughout the franchise's history, there have been characters whose personalities have been overwritten. At that point, they are essentially new characters, with the previous characters essentially dead. So either way, both Skywarp and Bombshell are dead. It doesn't really matter which became which, imo. Yeah, exactly this for me.
Yeah, Yeah, for THOSE who are ancient and have been around since the 80's... this topic has been discussed numerous times...as pointed out far too often. HOWEVER, since we don't want zombie threads revived... the only thing NEWER members can do is ask their questions in this forum... with a new thread. So quit being thread bullies and let the newbies have their moment. Now...NEWBIES... what you can do is SEARCH this (or any forum) on the boards, and read those old threads and IF you don't satisfactory find an answer to your question(s) then please post a new thread. CONTINUE...
Let me rephrase my post; Yes, you are correct that the retcon came out 20 years later AND on top of that it only affected JG1, not USG1.
Thanks! I mostly wondered what happened to his armada. Now I know. Somehow who Cyclonus was is less important than Galvatron since he seems to completely be another person like Scourge. He has the personality of neither Bombshell nor Skywarp and doesn't seem to have any memories of anything while Galvatron remembers that he was Megatron (while being crazier).
I think it's obvious, the insecticons were reformatted to be sweeps and cyclonus armada, while TC and SW were reformatted into scourge and cyclonus respectively, hence the cloning ability of the sweeps and the same was probably to be of cyclonus armada, but was dropped for some reason. I think it's just being an arse to want to think bombshell became cyclonus.
Really? You're saying that's the obvious thing? How can that be the obvious thing when it's not what's the depicted that screen? I understand the desire to want skywarp to have become cycloneus.....but bassic storytelling and advertising technique will tell you that the character that is upfront and close to center is the one intended to being named Theres just no way that they were going to advertise the named toy by sticking him in the background and smaller on-screen
Yes, based on the shot and which bot is closer to the camera (and hence who Unicron is giving the emphasis to in his speech), Cyclonus was clearly made from Bombshell's dead body. The other guy that used to be Skywarp was an identical bot to Cyclonus, and there were even more of them made off-screen, since we see multiple Cycloni in alt-modes later (the eponymous "armada.") The problem arises later when someone decided that Cyclonus should only be an individual with no other copies, and now the scene in TF:TM needed to be retconned. But one simply can't explain away what we clearly see as two dead robots becoming two live ones (and exact copies) in the same shot. So the best possible answers are either that all the other copies were destroyed between the end of TF:TM and season 3 of the cartoon, or that the scene was meant as a figurative interpretation that Cyclonus was made from multiple dead Transformers. Of course that doesn't explain the "armada" line... Now if what you're really asking is, "Is Cyclonus a new body for Bombshell," then the answer is a definite no. Cyclonus looks, talks and acts nothing like Bombshell (or Skywarp for that matter.)
