was pleased to pick this guy up at TRU yesterday afternoon... Here you have it... Color scheme & Sculpt The third in Cybertron Leader class, Metroplex lives up to the standard of the lines predecessors and does not disappoint. This is a cool sculpt and fun figure. His color scheme is fantastic, save for that the white is ((like on most TFs with white)) kinda plain. I can see a repaint possibly having more appeal based on removing this color alone. However the white, light gray, dark blue, black, and gold, silver, red, and poppy light blue colors thrown in for good measure make him really look quite well. There is a fair amount of detail crafted into his sculpt... a black wash ((like Armada Demolishers legs)) would've really helped those details come out. Proportion wise... there is 13" tall-thin-and-lanky-mode, and bad-ass-shorter-mode-which-isn't-all-that-short-mode. I prefer the latter. The instructions tell you to flip his waist around for the shorter mode, but if you do you lose articulation in the legs. Don't do it... it makes really little visual difference and you increase his articulation. G1 Homage I once owned G1 Metroplex... loved him. All I can really see immediately of the old in the new is the pipes on the side of his head and the fact that he is big. And white with some black on the chest. Perhaps there is more, but it's just not jumping out at me. This figure didn't necessarly need to be named Metroplex, he's good enough to stand on his own merits. Articulation It's great! In "Battle Mode" when he is all big and stretched out he has pretty much everything. Head swivels, shoulders rotate and go out, rotation at the bicep, bend at the elbows, hands bend like Cyb OPs, complete waist rotation, thighs foward and out and rotate just below, knees bend, and you can do strange things with his lower legs because of the way he transforms. You can even do weird things with his chest like bend it foward or back. And the best part... no kibble blocks any of the movements. He's flawless here. And like mentioned earlier, in "Work Mode" when he's short, if you flip him at the waist he can maintain ALL of his posibility ((save the weird thing with his chest)) And he is on ALL wratching joints... so he will stay how you leave him and you can leave him in a many way! Really really pleased with articulation here! Features I turned him into his Alt mode... a giant bucket excavator... which he does look like sorta... which is a wicked piece of monsterous machinery ((google it up)) and showed it to my girlfriend who immediately said he just looks like a robot bending down. Insert frown. Save lightpiping eyes ((light pipe hole in the front works great!)) and his awesome articulation he really has no features... they all belong to Sparkdrinker, his axe. One end has a clawish shovel thing that opens... the middle has three point of articulation ((an articulated weapon!)) and the end has a saw that rotates manually or splits open when you put in the cyber key. Little light on the end. Looks cool. OP can hold it too, but it is HEAVY and falls out easily... with the handle positioned way up towards the saw end it can be a pain. He also sports ALOT of minicon ports... they are everywhere... and his Minicon Drill-Bit ((identical to Megatrons Leader-1 but not the same mold, this guy is bigger and his port is on the opposite side and his cockpick faces the opposite way)) can attach to any of these and also port-lessly by snapping into the claw/shovel end of Sparkdrinker. I've seen people do creative things with his Alt Mode... but really, you're not gonna display him like that... so who cares... Quibbles Sparkdrinker weighs a ton and needs places for his second hand to lock in. The plain bright white paint will always be too plain. Tall mode is a bit disproportionate. But shorter mode is just amazing and that is how I have him now and that is how he'll stay for me!! Not alot to complain about, he's solid. Overall He is worth the $43 he came out to in everyway. I really like him, but I do fear a repaint being cooler. I can see him easily being a Decepticon packaged with the repaint of OP at the lines end. Great display piece though and a mold worth owning.
