    Please stop the sucking....

Picked up Backstop today. This one of the very FEW TFs i regret buying. He is like a large McDonald's toy.. seriously!

    Beast Mode:
This is the only redeeming part of Backstop. Rhino mode is nice. Has a decent size to him. Legs move at the hips and knees. Tal moves up and down and head side to side.

    Cyberkey gimmick:
Put it into the back of his rhino head and the horn extends out for a long battering ram.. Fairly useless in robot mode.

    Transformation:
Bring front and back legs down. and push them together. Pull down on them to lower the hips. pull on his buttocks to pull out the left arm. Pull the right arm down and the flip the head from the middle of the body.

    Robot mode:
Well frankly it is a major turd of a figure. It looks awful. There is no way to really describe the pain of it all.

    I give him a D.

    Get wreckloose instead.

BackStop is basically a new RockLord. That's about the only redeeming quality to him.

Only those who want EVERY SINGLE show mold should get this.

I heard the guy that designed him had no time to do it, so he had to design him on the train to work! Whether this is true or ot it makes sense.

I'm supprised the animators stayed true to accuracy and did nothing to make him cooler in the show.

I like the toy, but understand those who hate it. Honestly, based on the pics I wasn't sure I'd get him. Part of it may be that I like the way he's portrayed in the cartoon.

I really like the rhino mode. Well articulated, with a nice (if obvious) key gimmick. I really like the level of detail that went into the sculpt.

Transformation is unique, and given the results, I hope it remains unique. The robot mode is short, squat, and bricky. The key gimmick is useless, and the face is begging for a paint app. BUT the final result is so... goofy that I find it gives the toy some character, which redeems it in my eyes. Admittedly, I like him in the same way I like "Night of the Lepus", but I like him nonetheless. His charm makes him far more palatable than other flubs such as BM Silverbolt, Arm Sideways, and Cyb Thundercracker.

Perhaps this would have worked better in a larger scale, perhaps not. With all its obvious flaws I am a bit suprised that it even managed to get greenlit. Very, very mildly recommended, for completists, rhino fans, and people with nothing better to do with $7.

    Grade: A charming, quirky, C-.

This guy ( even though I'm considering him) is in no way better than Thundercracker. T.C. has:
    knees
    swing thighs
    3 elbows
    head turn
Weapons in bot mode (useful ones atleast)

    Backstop has:
    none of the above

But your right, he looks fun. And since he's so short, he could use his ramming horn in bot mode to trip some taller guys!

    Still, Thundercracker OWNS Backstop.

Everything logical tells me I shouldn't like Backstop, but instead I find him strangely fascinating and fun. Interesting that his rhino mode is better articulated than the robot mode though.

I got this bugger today, and ya know what? I kinda like him. Granted, hes a brick, but Wingsaber is a brick, and I like his bot mode too *L* I think I like him simply because he is so SNAFU... and at least he transforms differently than others, that's a plus.

Opinions are highly subjective in even the best cases, and arguing is pointless, unless, like me, you just like to argue pointless things. So, if you wish to debate a point, at least try to debate the point made.

Nothing you state in any way contradicts what I said about Backstop: His bot mode is all messed up. By most qualitative measures, he's a flop (though I suppose I could point out that in alt mode he's got most of the points of articulation on your list).

However, the deciding factor for me was not something that can be measured or counted. Points of articulation mean diddly in this case. I found Backstop charming. Not so Thundercracker (or Armada Sideswipe or the Energon Dinobots). "Charm" is, of course, the most subjective of features, which is why I granted that most won't like the toy.

However I am fairly certain in a few months time Backstop will still hold together fairly well, while Thundercrackers around the nation are flopping about like fish in a frying pan.

Backstop is good for putting his hands on his stomach, for that "I couldn't eat another bite!" pose. :)

Ya see! I was debating about your little comment about thundercracker. You said that Backstop's better than BM Silverbolt, ARM Sideways and CYB Thundercracker. And I disagree that hes better than T.C.. Ya see now, we just missunderstood eachothers posts.

    Thundercrackers still better... :ev:
