I'm trying to decide on whether or not to add the yellow-stripe, since a yellowish-orange stripe is present on the original G1 toy, and a yellow stripe appears on the original G1 Animated series model too. Decisions, decisions.

Anywhoozle, "Arn-hahhhd" here had a base-coat in some spots mixed from Tamiya Red, and Orange, and Testors Dark Tan. Then he was painted primarily in a mixture that included Tamiya Red, Tamiya Orange, and Reaper Red-Steel, with a little future added as well. I wanted the final product to have a color that hewed slightly towards a rust-red.

He has details in Testors Battleship Gray and Gunmetal, and also a Pewter-colored mixture made from Testors Gunmetal, Tamiya Copper, and Citadel Mithril Silver. The energon-blade was painted with Tamiya Clear-Blue, the backs of his headlights and his grille-guard were painted in straight Citadel Mithril Silver, and the backs of his brake-lights were painted with Tamita Red on one half, and Tamiya orange on the other, before being painted over with Tamiya clear Orange.

Lastly, his opaque window details were painted over in a mix of Testors Aluminum and Dark Blue, and his eyes were painted with a mix of Citadel Enchanted Blue and Testors Dragon White.

    WHEW!

I am very pleased with the way he turned out, and I feel the looks so much better now that the Salmon-color plastic has been covered over. Honestly I dunno what Hasbro was thinking with that color *lol*

Vehicle-mode pics to come later! Comments are welcome!

Please understand that I am complimenting you when I say that you've polished that turd as hard as possible. I don't think it's possible to get a better looking version of that mold. Bravo. Lastly, you might want to consider Matt Booker's tutorial for making his head pop out a bit more.

Thanks! I understand, since I know the mold isn't a favorite to put it kindly. Hell, as hard as I worked on this I still want a better Ironhide and Ratchet from the Generations Line.

And I have done most of the alterations for the head. I don't have everything pressed together as firmly right now for the sake of avoiding paint-rub :)  Also, I am strongly considering replacing the existing neck with a ball-joint.

There's a pretty grade mod that involves shaving down the "spine" in a way that lets the head pop up further. I thought it was Matt Booker's, but I could be wrong. Scope out the feedback thread for that toy if you're curious.

Sorry, it's been a while since I owned this mold, I forgot that even with the mod he's still a gloomy gus. :)

Heh heh, no prob! On the plus side, this one was purchased used and he had some paint-scuffing to the roof/windshield portion and I paid less than $20 for him, so I didn't have to pay the ridiculous prices he's gone for.

Excellent job. I may be one of the few that loves this rendition of him, and you did some awesome changes to make him look nicer.

I think I might be most pleased with how well the tail-lights turned out *lol*

Excellent job. I just finished up my repaint and head/backpack mods on my Ironhide. Have you come across a way to fix his crappy elbow range? Shaving down the red elbow armor piece enough makes it look really bad.

Nope. I have not attempted any mods to the elbows. You are right though, his rage of motion there sucks.

I'd say to keep the bot mode looking nice, don't paint the yellow stripe. I love my Henkei figure the way it is, but when I repainted the Universe figure, I left the stripe out.

While I'm pleased with the paint-work (especially the windows), there's even less hope for his vehicle mode than his robot mode.
