Great thread. Any chance people can show us some of the pics they have displayed?

My Combiners tower over my collection :D

A 18 inch Devastator looks sweet in the classics line.

Lieaving out the 3rd party stuff, I really don't have any customized toys in my collection outside of Henkei Sideswipe and Sunstreaker with switched heads new labels on them as new characters. Actually the red Sunstreaker might ALMOST count since I bought some model car decals and put them on (bunch of flames...call him Fireball). Yellow Sideswipe just has some of the Tigertrack Reprolabels so I don't really count that.

I wouldn't lave any out though, in fact I have a bag full of Classics Starscreams and Ramjets I bought in '07 with the intent to try my hand at customizing that I STILL need to get around to doing.

I made a nice custom paint job on Movie 07 Blackout. Possibly one of my favorite movie figures now, despite his obvious mold flaws.

I'm saving this thread. I guess I could post my entire collection mixed in with customs.

In regards to custom figures, my personal aim in customizing is to create figures that HasTak don't seem to have plans to make. Deluxe Henkei Cliff, Metroplex, Omega Supreme, combiners, and such.

So customs are more than welcome in my collection given the character and lack of production model figure for that character.

That said, it looks like my plans for Scourge and Sweeps and going to be a wash. Looks like I'll have some figures for sale.

I don't understand this mode of thinking. Counterpunch? said something similar.

If you had a custom G1 Devastator from Ptitvite or Frenzy_Rumble, would you have a hard time fitting it into your "Classics" or even "Masterpiece" collection? If so, why not dedicate a shelf to misc stuff (i.e. customs, busts, knockoffs, 3rd party releases, etc.).

I know of two customs I would've LOVED to have in my collections. The Masterpiece Jazz, and the Masterpiece Wheeljack. Both would've fitted in really well with Masterpiece Prime, Megatron, and Skywarp. So yes, depending on figure and price tag.

I've got a few customs scattered about within my collection, but I do display what few I have with the rest of my figures since I want to show off what I can do.

Still working out where my SG Ratchet will go once I get around to finishing him.

I don't have any, but I'd love to have some from some of the guys around here that are so damn good at it. I'm blown away at what some of the people posting in the Radicons threads are capable of. Mixing/matching, molding new parts, etc,.. it's all like black magic to me. I'm amazed and the stuff that probably takes those guys no effort at all, like making their guns or parts of a TF look like it's real metal; let alone making new limbs and joints. Incredible. So I'm saying yes.

Love customs. I look at having them in a philosophical sense: do I want my entire collection to be composed of nothing but items monotonously made in a factory thousands of miles away and distributed to me by a money-making conglomerate? Or do I want at least parts of my collection to have been created lovingly with great thought and consideration by skilled artisans who really care about what they're making for other fans?

If anything, I tend to be more protective of my customs. They may not always be as well made as factory pieces, but they're art, IMO.

My displays have always centered around the '84-'85 cast. If Hasbro won't make a certain dude, I'll make him myself. To that extent, I'll display my customs and my off-the-shelf dudes together, because they were all originally part of the same ensemble cast.

I got into customizing because some of the retail figures didn't cut it for me... especially Decepticons. I'd look at Classics Megatron and think "That is not Megatron".

    I don't feel that way anymore. :)

Also the idea that I can someday complete the cartoon cast is much more fun than sitting around moaning about whether or not HasTak is releasing a figure.

    -It depends-

The custom must fill a hole in the specific collection.
G1 Aligatorcons or Animated Slipstream would be perfect examples.
