Here is my third ROTF autobot custom - Sideswipe!

Sideswipe was painted with the same platinum automotive paint as my TFTM Jazz. I know, the metallic flakes look too big and the paintjob looks rough and textured in pics, but I just love the color. It looks much better in real life where you don't really notice the large metallic flakes. :)  I modded the feet by removing the car fenders and epoxying them back to the car hood. This made them more accurate to the CG model which stood only on its wheels. I also added real springs to the suspension thingies on the back of his legs. Comments and critiques are very much welcome.

    Heys,

Was he airbrushed? If so, maybe you could have thinned the paint somemore and used a clear coat. Too bad the orange peel grainy effect was really obvious in the close up shots, but I'm sure he looks great in real life.

Beside the rough texture, I adore the shade of silver and the ruff'n'gruff effect on the robot parts. Looks just like the movie render. Nice :)

Hahaha I knew someone would say that. Thanks Solrac! :)

    Thanks pare! :)

Nope, the paint on the car exterior was straight out of a can. I used several coats of clear as well. Actually the paint finish on the car exterior is silky smooth. The 'rough texture' you see is really just the metallic flakes that are obviously too large when a camera focuses on the figure close up.

I wish I had an airbrush though. Tamiya metallic grey mixed with gunmetal is an almost dead-on match to the platinum car paint. That mix is what I used on the similarly colored robot parts - see how they don't have the metallic flake. Unfortunately I don't have an airbrush, or crazy wet-sanding + handbrushing skills, to produce a smooth, shiny finish on the entire car exterior.

I must sound pretty silly basically saying "It doesn't look that way in real life, believe me!" Haha

Thanks for all the feedback dude. :)

Hahaha thanks! I'm glad you think so.

But yeah I can't help but be really critical of my own work. I'm sure many other artists are like this as well.

deluxe sideswipe is actually one of the only figures i dont think needs to be repainted. maybe detailed in a few areas but that feet mod just kicks the shit out of the HA figure. i mean the only thing it had was the sleek car mod but seeing as how this gets rid of the extra lines on the car and makes his robot mode more accurate, well its just plain awesome. im gonna try that.

I can't seem to figure out how you managed to get him to stand up in all those pics. Are those wheels/feet flat? Looks totally awesome man! I dig both the vehicle and the bot mode! And this is coming from the guy who only likes one and not both modes of any TF toys so far! Great job!

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like it.

I really recommend the foot mod, it makes him more movie accurate without taking away anything in terms of stability. :)  I did try to fill out the panel lines on the hood with epoxy. It was my first time doing something like this and it's still not as smooth as I'd like.

Hahaha thanks pare. Go pinoy :rock

Balancing on the heelspurs (and tons of practice) helps a lot. Thanks for the kind words. :)

Thanks Sabby! Means alot coming from our resident metallics guru. :)
