    Hi everyone,

Here is my custom Generations Hot Rod.

I retooled Titans Returns Hot Rod by cutting away the chest cavity so that his head does not need to be removed for transformation. The head was also re-tooled so it is no longer a Head Master. Finally, a simple repaint and some panel lining for finishing touches.

    Hope everyone likes it!

Looks good, imo all it needs are the rims painted so it doesn't look like just a black wheel

thanks! There isn't much sculpting on the rims so I thought it might look wierd painted :(

I'm new to this site so sorry for this dumb question. Does anyone know how I can get a proper preview image of this thread? Right now it just shows my profile pic?

When you create the thread, upload a file as a thumbnail (there's an option). That'll be your preview pic.

Go to your first post and hit EDIT at the top left.
    Select MORE OPTIONS.
There is a field to upload a file.

    Thanks Yautja! Worked great!

Is there a way to hide the thumbnail in the actual post?

is it possible to get a top-down view to see how you cut the chest cavity?

I tried it myself and the results are looking pretty raw, wondering if there's any way to clean it up without destroying it further.

Also, how did you edit the head exactly? Classics Ironhide?

I sculpted the head after cutting up the headmaster portions and keeping only the connector peg to body.
I used a pair of runner cutters to cut away the excess chest cavity portions and then carved away the rest with a hobby knife.
    Hope that helps.

It does. If I'm looking at it right, you DO have to carve away at the port-housings in the chest to allow clearance for the head?

If I may jump in, the entire top of the chest doesn't need removed. Just enough for the head to pass through.
And yes, the underside of the hood does need hollowed a bit.

Oh well, seeing through those tabs isn't a big deal thanks to the folding chest anyway, thanks

Yes Hyoumaru, make sure you carefully use a sharp hobby knife to carve away the engine ports. The plastic is very brittle so you have to take care when doing this!

Love to see how it turns out for you!

In all honesty, I have more luck with a precision-drill bit tipped dremel than a carving knife, my first attempt at de-headmastering Blurr is a sad testament to that. Based on what I've read here though, I haven't cut away nearly enough to make this work yet.

I have LG Designs' backhead replacement parts coming from shapeways to help with this, once I've scrapped the titan master body I'll try to carve out more of the chest. (I have no experience fabricating parts from scratch.) I'm trying to handle this delicately because it was difficult finding Hot Rod in the first place. Wave distribution in my area is abysmal (This Hot Rod figure has so far been the first and last wave 3 toy I've found.) and shipping charges for online purchases are a major pain to deal with, so if I mess this up, it could be a bit before I can try again.

Sorry for the double post, even if distanced by time.

LG designs' shapeways parts worked pretty well to replace the titan master in Hot Rod's head (though I did have to coat the ballsocket in a few layers of gorilla glue to give it any measure of hold), after that I used the dremel to carve away at the chest.

Still not all that clean, but I'm happy with it. No more headmaster crap for Hot Rod.

Nice. I'd like to see if something could be done to make the Titan Master a Target Master as he should be. That replacement head looks fantastic.
