W.I.P! *Edit: Almost finished! Full-Tilt done, Trypticon nearly done. More pics coming soon.

G1 cartoon/ Marvel comic style black Trypticon

Only considering this a "Heavy" custom because a) this fella is kinda heavy, and b) I had to fix him before even prepping him for painting. Luckily, the hips & tail seem fine on mine. I wasn't so fortunate when it came to the transparent green door however.

Had to carefully blow dry the warped hatch mine had to heat it up, & ever so gently bend it back straight, then put it between a giant stack of heavy books overnight. Also needed to tighten Tryp's armpit screws & thicken up the green door tabs with superglue to keep it from flapping open with Full-Tilt attached.

After that was fixed I removed Full-Tilt, Necro, the green door again, the purple chest piece, the 4 purple foot spurs, & the green tail gun. Masked all the green, purple, silver, & transparent parts I wanted to keep with painting tape:
    image.jpeg
Removed the legs and spray painted ol Trippy using Rustoleum metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze, which has a nice shiny charcoal color to it. Waiting for him to dry now, then off comes the tape.
    image.jpeg
Don't plan on painting the inner panels, I'm going to keep those gray so his city & Nemesis mode have some contrast to them instead of being solid black. I will be detailing all the various pipes, pistons, & doo-dads tho, then dirty washing him. Lastly it'll be hours of applying all the reprolabels & factory stickers, followed up with a clear coat finish. Stay tuned!

Nice! How are you addressing friction points and paint chipping?

Short answer: I'm not, haha. Probably should have done some minor sanding here & there, but so far I don't see any issues. Most of the moving / sliding parts are either green or off-white, so they remain unpainted & fine. A few spots are a bit tighter than before, but I prefer it tight rather than loose. Ahem. ;D

Wow thanks guys. I'm kind of going for my dream Takara version lol. Doing some silver detailing tonight, and just placed my Toyhax order for Tryp & full tilt, so that should motivate me to do more work on this guy before it shows up in the mail. Usually only takes 3 - 5 days, so I've got my work cut out for me

I wasn't sure what you were going for but now that you've made a ton of progress on it, I see it. Fantastic job! Wish he actually came like this.

    *sniff* So many memories...

"Hey, no munching on the boss!" Grimlock literally taking a bite out of Trypticon's head. This is the issue where Grimlock becomes leader of the Autobots too if I remember correctly.

It's from Deviant Art. Not my pics regrettably. Pity because I'd love to see the Marvel comics recolored like this.

Sorry to go off topic. Once again, that custom paint job is fantastic.

That artwork is AWESOME!!! Is it just a recolor of the G1 Marvel art? Because some of the panels look entirely redrawn as well. Too cool. I too would love to see that whole run redone like this. Can't wait to have the PotP dinobots to recreate those scenes.

And thank you guys again for the compliments. I'll try to put up another progress report update later today. The more detailing I put on him, the more it looks like a cartoon / comic / War for Cybertron Trypticon mash up (my other inspiration). Can't wait to get to the stickering stage

It's just a recolour. Ive always felt the US comic artwork was underrated because of the colouring system at the time.

Status report: Painted his teeth & claws, plus some other silver / bronze / metallic work. I'll probably be painting pipes & pistons for the next couple days. This guy is veeeeerrrrry detailed, and I've got my work cut out for me to say the least
