What is your criteria whenever you buy TF's?

I say the character of the toy on the show and / or the toy's plus points in a review

Mostly on how the character fits into my photocomic or if it has a chance of becoming useful even in a minor way in it.

G1-likeness, proportion, paint/colors, articulation, detailing, interesting transformation. In more-or-less that order.

This has basically limited my collection to Masterpeice Prime and a handful of Henkeis.

For me, It's not much about characterization since I don't watch the shows. Though if its a character from G1 I liked as a kid I'll get really excited for it more than others. Overall I just enjoy collecting the franchise. However sometimes I'll buy a toy I don't really like the looks of because I have an idea for it in my comic. That's how I ended up with most of my Animated toys.

    Personally, for me, in order...

    Transformation process
    Alt mode
    Robot mode/articulation
    Colours/design

This has made my absolute favourite the MP Seekers.

I dont worry about show characterisation, etc so much. My Transformers are engineering examples and interesting objects. Although, I do find that certain characters that I liked from G1 sometimes push me towards/away from a figure - Red Alert, Thrust, Skywarp, Smokescreen.

I couldn't care less about reviews. I buy whatever I like. What I like is, of course, very subjective to my own personal tastes that are hard to define in writing. I love anything that is complicated and does a good job of pulling of what my own definition of G1 was all about without being strictly only G1 references. The "idea" of G1. Not the history of it.

    Mostly...

    1.Design (alt and bot modes)
    2.Transformation
    3.G1 Characters

Ive set a cap on what goes in the collection that leaves me focusing on the following:

    1. Classics/Uni. 2.0 (G1 guys only, except Silverbolt... which SUCKS when it comes to my 1st and 2nd criteria).

    2. Anyone else I feel fits into the above series (i.e. realistic alt modes... ex. All the RID Autobot combiners and Autobot Brothers...

    3. Toys from other series' that have the G1 characters (and probably wont get new molds in Uni. 2.0.... i.e. Energon Omega Supreme, Energon Arcee, Cybertron Armorhide {color as Huffer}

Also, I will still partially add to my partial Movie collection, but based on my criteria... this "Barricades' Sister" will NOT be on my shelf, though that new Prime will, and Sipeswipe!!!

    My criteria:
    1. Overall appeal in both modes.
    2. Any unique traits (I.E. G1 Sixshot being the first ever 6-changer)
    3. Gimmickry (lights, sound, missiles, targetmasters, etc.)
    4. Personal feelings (I've always wanted a G1 Starscream, and the classics redeco is probably as close as I'll ever get untill I can get a true G1 screamer)

    In this order:

    1.) Repaint
    2.) Homage
    3.) Aesthetic
    4.) Decepticon

Because of this, I nearly always by repaints, because I love them, and I own probably 80% more Decepticons than Autobots. I do not buy any animated, because they don't fit my design aesthetic, and I own no straight Optimus Primes (Only repaints of his mold.)

The most accurate version of the character on screen. Sometimes, I just buy it because it's neat looking.
