Bruno Delbonnel (AMELIE, HARRY POTTER 6, DARK SHADOWS)

    VFX

Although Rick Baker is an extremely talented and prolific make-up effects artist, depending on the movie, his skills may or may not be wasted. The Wolf-Man? Of course. Men in Black? Definitely. Transformers? Not so much. I mean, looking at Bay's three movies, what would Baker/his team have done? I suppose the more 'mundane' make-up for the cast (but why bother getting Cinovation for that?). Or Shia's "burnt-to-a-crisp" prosthetics in RotF. These films aren't really catered to make-up effects teams. At most I can see Baker and his design team coming up with concepts for the designs and sculptures that the actual visual effects company would use for their purposes.

Personally, I really wanted Stan Winston's Studio and Dennis Muren to be working on Transformers when it was announced. But KNB FX and Scott Farrar (and everyone else involved at ILM and for the practical special effects) are just as good. :)

Yeah, yeah, I’m annoying for speculating what notable cinematographers/VFXperts/crew members MBay will hire for the fourth film. There’s no use commenting on this thread if you have no ideas regarding whom MBay might hire.

You have a very valid point. But I think in terms of design Baker could be a great choice to hire for the job. Douglas Trumbull is great for miniatures, and he recently made a comeback with TREE OF LIFE. And also the guys who worked on THE FOUNTAIN would be fantastic, especially with the news of space scenery (THE FOUNTAIN looks great in space) for the fourth film.

“Personally, I really wanted Stan Winston's Studio and Dennis Muren to be working on Transformers when it was announced.”
Muren, who worked on STAR WARS, would have been fantastic; so would, perhaps, Ken Ralston (various films) or John Dykstra (SPIDER-MAN). And it would have been great to hire Stan Winston or Jim Henson to provide animatronics and other practical VFX.
But on the whole I am happy with what Scott Farrar and his team have done for the past three films, and would cheer if they returned for the fourth film.
