I bet the aforementioned skyrocketing gas prices are pinching this guy's wallet. I just don't get this. He can't maintain balance in his non-city lifestyle by living, say, 30 or 40 miles out of the city? There's not one place he can comfortably live that's any closer to his work than halfway across the state of California?

To put this in perspective, 370 miles is a little more than the distance between my house and my parents house. My parents live in Atlanta, GA. I live in INDIANA. It's rough on me making that drive 2 or 3 times a year; let alone every single workday of the week. Yeeouch.

If he drives that much to balance out his personal life, he must not have much of one.

Wow. I thought my hour-and-a-half [both ways] commute to school and back used to be bad...

So he drives a total of 370 miles to work and back from San Jose to Mariposa...

To put it in perspective, San Jose to LA is about 340 miles... So each day he's pretty much making a trip from San Jose to LA one way... That's NUTS... Especially with REGULAR gas OVER $3.00 here now... It makes me wonder if he drives a Hybrid to cut costs on gas...

I know of people that commute from Sacramento to San Jose and I thought THAT was crazy enough... This one takes the cake by far...

And for those of you who don't know where Mariposa is, it's in the STICKS... Near Yosemite National Park... So yeah, I dunno if this guy has much of a personal life if he's living out in the BFE...

Maybe he's got one of those 7 figure jobs...

Of course, then he should have his own helicopter or something...

Either way, I've got a message for him...

    Jeebus, from MARIPOSA??? That's insane!

Yeah, like Razerwire said, Mariposa is close to freaking Yosemite...and driving from Yosemite to San Jose is not a light trip!

Fucking weirdo. I can get in my car, light a cigarette, drive downtown, park, walk a half a block to the employee entrance to the building where I work...and put that same cigarette out in the ashtray outside the door. I don't have a commute; I have a smoke break.

Than't just stupid. If he works an eight hour day and commutes 12 hours, then when does he have time to sleep let alone enjoy that wonderful home he has?

Most truckdrivers I know don't put that many hours on the road a day.

Mariposa is worth it. My father and Step-Mother retired there, and I drove up there after Botcon 2004. It is literally 10 min from Yosemite, I know we went there while I was there.

If I had the chance to live there and had to make that kind of drive to do it I would. I fell in love with the place while I was there.

How is he supposed to enjoy living there if all he has time to do there is sleep?

I used to spend 6 hours a day travelling to and from work each day - but 12 hours a day?! Holy Cow!!

But if it's a job he really loves doing, and he earns enough to cover his travel expenses, fair lay to him!! :D

ditto here. i'm a late rise so i always make sure my commute is always less than half an hour.

i mean, just thinking you spend - say your commute 1 way is an hour - 2 hours a day in a traffic is depressing.
