Didn't see it poted, if it has been I apologize and go ahead and lock 'er up. Earth Had Two Moons That Crashed to Form One, Study Suggests - Yahoo! News Interesting stuff anyway, but I figgured TF fans that liked Beast Wars might get a kick out of it
I can't imagine a second moon ever getting enough speed to merge into the bigger moon like that, unless it came from out of orbit.. but either way, its still a big useless chunk of rock in the sky
Funny thing is the day before this news was announced, I was watching the final episode of "Men In Black: The Series" on the Hub and in it, Kay tells Jay that Earth once had 2 moons 6,000 years ago, but a misguided alien missile destroyed it.
Calling the collision event "The big splat" makes me giggle a little bit. This is some pretty cool news, and there's a lot of pretty solid evidence behind it. I wonder how the same evidence could be applied to the theory that the differences in moon topography are due to the original extraterrestrial impact that supposedly created the moon, though. You don't need speed when you've got momentum and time. Also, yeah, the tides are pretty useless, to say nothing of all the social applications of the moon.
To be fair, without the moon the idea of werewolves may never have come about. And without werewolves, Twilight may never have been written. Therefore I posit that the moon should have been destroyed many, many years ago.
Thanks to Optimus Primal, that "moon" would have destroyed the Earth. Next article Land on Earth was caused by drifting asteroid. Took hundreds of thousands of years to separate into continents with erosion.
