I'm not the first to do this, but I thought I'd post a how-to for others that're keen to improve the figure.

    Incredibly easy to do -

    1) Get some Fine Chain (jewellery shops are the best for real thin chain like this) - you'll also want two 'Jump Rings' - these are slightly larger metal rings with a split in them, which allows you to thread things on.

    2) Cut six equal lengths of chain, and attach 3 to each jump ring. It helps if you have 2 pairs of pliers for this - twist each half of the jump ring in opposite directions to make room to attach the chain. Try not to distort the jump ring - bend it to the sides so that it's still a circle.

    3) Remove the screw from Crankcase's head, and dismantle. Easy.

    4) Pull the rubber dreads off their posts.

    5) You can now attach the jump rings to each post, with the chain hanging down just like the original dreads.

    6) Re-assemble head and enjoy.

You can still ram them inside the chest for altmode. I'm planning to add a magnet in there to keep them tidy.

Credit for the idea goes to "Sso02V" of the boards. I just modified the technique, used different parts and made it into a tutorial.

I can post additional pics if anyone needs them - I felt it was simple enough without though.

The process is totally reversible, this is a non-permanent mod :)

I noticed one of the dread cracking on my Crankcase. If it breaks off I'm going to try this mod!
I need to get some chains like this for DotM Megatron as well...

I was just thinking, has anyone raided their mom's/wife's/sis'/girlfriend's jewellery box for these types of chains? I thought they look dready enough for Crankcase. The only drawback is that they are harder to work with and connect...I do have similar ones in my knickknack box at home, I'll go look at it tonight..

The chain in the middle would be perfect for a Deluxe Crowbar - if someone was using this mold.

That's Snake Chain (I mentioned in another thread that this is what I originally intended to use, but a) you can't really shorten it easily and b) it was too bulky to fit in vehicle mode) - I'd love to see it done with that stuff. Gonna be hard work though! :)

    Update:

A 3mm rare earth magnet mounted in the deepest part of the chestplate holds all the chains tidy in altmode (much tidier than the stock parts, in fact) without affecting them in 'botmode. You can pick them up on ebay - I got 50 for £4.

The chains can be acquired from most independant jewellery shops, a single £2 chain will be enough for this mod. If you ask nicely they might even cut equal lengths and attach them to the jump rings for you.

If anyone's struggling with any part of this mod, shout out and I'll take some more photos.

    Peace.

My mother owns a jewellery shop, so I learned to make various stuff there. Came in handy after all!

I made them 5.5mm long, same as the stock dreads.
