If you count your collection do you count things like HA Arcee and Animated Laserbeak as their own thing or part of the toy they came with?

I tend to count individual figures even the Arcee from HA skids for example. Plus i do not count myself i use shmax which is a nice resource.

if it transforms by itself it counts, but i think would count the head of a headmaster as part of the body. yet the gun of a targetmaster as seperate entity.

I never really thought about it but going by my current collection I guess I count the robot named on the package.

I count each toy that changes into a "viable" character. For example, Energon Bulkhead is 1. Classics Hound and Ravage are 2. I don't count the character that combiners form. Animated Safeguard isn't counted, only Jetfire and Jetstorm.

    Clear as mud, right?

This is the most logical way to do it.

If it has an alt mode and a complete robot mode it gets a count. Target masters count as two for me, Headmasters count as 1.

I make a judgement call based on character/toy

    Combiners:
Each bot counts as their own. This came up when I was updating my G1 checklist last week, and couldn't count Comptron as one (since I'm still missing Scattershot & Lightspeed). Since I'm OCD abouting keeping things consistent I had to count each bot with the other combiners, so Menasor = 5, Devastator = 6, etc.

    Bases:
Count as one despite all the little doodads each of them come with.
Example: Metroplex is one, I don't count Six Gun/Scamper/Slammer I would need them for a "complete Metroplex" toy.

    Head/Target/Powermasters
Count as one, same reason as the bases above. A 'Master toy is not considered complete with out the head/gun(s)/engine

    Cassettes
Each one seperate, as every cassette (for the most part) has their own unique character and personality to stand alone. So Buzzsaw = 1, Soundwave = 1 despite being packaged together

A good litmus test is if I were to sell a toy and list it as "complete", that counts as 1 for me

I use shmax.com as well. In the past the site may have run slow but they have a lot of good features, a lot of detailed photos and you can even download your collection to your computer. (Love that feature). It does the counting for me!

This is pretty much mine save that i do count the combined form of the combiners provided the combination is a robot and not a vehicle only combination . example BW Starscream and BB = 2 Animated Jetfire and Jetstorm = 3 one for the individual figures and one for Safeguard

Tons of people ask this and everybody has different answers. Count it as you want to count it. There is no right or wrong way!

I'm pretty sure everytime I go to count my collection the number changes...even if I did not add anything new or take anything from the collection.

This Shmax.com intrigues me. I have never thought i'd do it that way, but i'm 95% sure of what i have, and just need to see it to know (it's hard for me to remember all the names!). this may be exactly what I need.
Although seeing every variant is crazy. I forgot/didn't know about alot of those.

Nah, bots that come with other bots don't get counted by me. Each box = 1, even if it's a multi pack or some such. I know that's probably wrong, but meh. It doesn't bother me that much.

I count every TF that represents a character as one. Even if it comes with another TF, like Laserbeak, it counts since it represents an individual Transformer character. But I'm too lazy to count my collection in the first place and even though I don't have nearly enough to say this and have it be true I'd rather just say IT'S OVER 9000!!! and be done with it. Counting is a pain after the first 200-300.
