If Scalpel was repainted into Perceptor, would you buy it?

I wouldn't be too keen on a "bug" robot mode for him, but i would buy it.

no, just because they have similar alt modes doen't mean they should make a repaint into him, Scalpel looks nothing like Perceptor and besides the TRU reissue Perceptor is out

    should they? no

could they? yes and with Hasbro's desire to get as much as possible out of every mold i wouldn't be much surprised if they did repaint him, and perceptor is an obvious choice based on alt modes

    would i buy it? maybe

    No way.

Perceptor's an Autobot, and that mould is no Autobot.

Big eyes and little antenna? Those could be cute and Autobot-like.

Maybe if they changed the plastic type for the leg sockets at the same time so it wouldn't break I would. Would I actually consider it to be Perceptor? Probably not.

That's... usually all the reason in the world to repaint a figure.
    1. Movie figures in general look almost nothing like their G1 counterparts. Optimus Prime is probably the closest for the marketability and his iconic status.

    2. Reissue Perceptor doesn't work on a shelf with movie figures, or even Classicsverse figures. Perceptor only works on a G1 shelf.

I'd definitely buy a Perceptor colored Scalpel. Awesome toys always deserve repaints.

I could see it working best as a decent retool.

I wouldn't buy it. But they should do it anyway.

If just for the historical fan outrage over a Perceptor bug.

Step 1: Buy an old Real Gear, and take it apart.
Step 2: Remove the legs and antennae from Scalpel, and place the arms, legs, and head in a way that will ball joint into the underside.
Step 3: Paint it red and black.
Step 4: When transforming, make it so that the microscope swings around (like it does in the original transformation, separate the left and right hinged sides, and transform the arms, legs and head.

At least that how I see it in my head. Instant Perceptor.

That mold is NOT one of an Autobot. If Hasbro did it, they'd be scraping the bottom of the barrel for repaints. It's a Transformer, both modes have to work for with the character to be a good repaint.

Well, if you want Perceptor as a buglike bot, then hope Hasbro gets the idea...

But, naah, it wont fit in! And Perceptor as a bug is epic FAIL.

Scalpel is really too well known as Scalpel to be anything else. Painting it red would just make it red but wouldn't distinguish it much at all as a new character.

Now I'll tell you a simple re-tool would be to change the binocular face to a monocular one or a tri-ocular one. If they did that they might even be able to sculpt a less maniacal "face" that would portray him as a more heroic character. They could also give him 4 bigger legs instead of 6 smaller ones (less insectoid, more robotic).
