I know it sounds ridiculous, but this story is gaining momentum. It was on the front page of CNN.com and is a top 10 story on Yahoo. Now where's my coat?

I saw this last week. I thought it was about him buying a prop of the ship. To use in the backyard for his kids to play on or whatever.

I'd totally build a Firefly-class spaceship tree fort for my kids. I must be in the shower getting a decent idea like this.

the problem with Firefly is that it's not all that popular. Family Guy had reruns airing that grew in viewership quickly and exponentially over a year. Firefly hasn't had that. There is a very vocal minority that Fox simply couldn't care less about.

Now if Fillion or Weadon were ever able to get full rights to the series back, I could see it as a slim possibility on SyFy or something like that.

Recently, Firefly has caught a bit of my interest. I had heard of the show, but was shocked to hear it only got 14 episodes. From what I've read it was a decent show too.

Bottom line: I support Nathan 110%

I don't see it happening, but I support any attempt to make it happen.

Surely Firefly lacks the broad appeal that Family Guy has?

Having said that, I would love to see Firefly back.

Yeah, I don't even see Futurama as having the same mass appeal as Family Guy. Firefly less so than Futurama.

Completely. The fact that it bombed in 2 different mediums should be proof of that. The movie was it's second chance, it failed. The franchise is dead. Mourn it, move on, stop the bitching. It's really starting to irritate me.

Not to mention that getting a bunch of dudes in an east Asian animation sweatshop to start drawing again costs virtually nothing compared to renting studios and equipment, building sets, employing American production labour and so on.

I understand the concept that Firefly is much more complicated to pull off. But Dr. Horrible is proof that if the people creating it are committed, anything can happen.

You could always just not click on threads like this.

I saw the story on Yahoo I think it was that Firefly has been picked up to air on the Space channel along with Kakou segments talking about all that they did right concerning the physics.

    I'll second this also.

I love Firefly just as much as the rest of us nerds, but seriously, everyone has moved on to other things EXCEPT us. Time to let this puppy die, and go champion the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

I think asking $300 million to buy and do the show for the internet is an unrealistic fantasy at best.

I loved the show, I loved the film. The problem with the film is to get the most out of it, you need to have seen the series... I don't really understand why the series failed though. It had great stories, characterisation and realisation.

Part of me thinks a lot of the US audience got turned off by the pro-china-future, or by the fact that the whole series was a metaphor for post Civil war America?

"Save-the-show" or "Resurrect-the-show" campaigns seldom work. Look how difficult it has been trying to get the brilliant Arrested Development back for just one last spin.

I really don't see it happening, but if it did I would be all over it.

FOX could never settle on when it was going to actually air the show, then when they did air it they showed the episodes in the incorrect order.

Then they decided it wasn't getting ratings and canned it.

They aired the episodes out of order (including not airing the pilot first!), the trailers spoiled the episode plot twists (Why is there a girl in the box!), and they kept changing the night it aired on.

So in other words the broadcaster fucked the show itself, which gives no-one any real proof of it's popularity or quality.

I've only seen a couple of eps and it seemed fun stuff. The movie seemed terribly cheap (the monsters at the end were horrendous) but I had no issue in following most of what was happening.

family guy and futurama returned thanks to the successful run on adult swim.

family guy only came back after they realized just how much ratings/money they were missing out on! :lol

The fact that something like Family Guy, which I consider funny about 10% of the time, is so much more popular than a decent show like Firefly is a never ending source of sadness to me. Good luck, Nathan.
If you stop reading threads about it, I'm sure that would help.
