people i just had a thought on the matter

if you transform cybertron mudflap to robot mode and stand him next to classics optimus prime optimus and mudflap are both in the same size scale

    people my question is this

should hasbro repaint and remold mudflap and rerelease him as classics inferno and grapple.

you ask me grapple would be the easier of the 2 to do since grapple and mudflap both transform into construction crane trucks so grapple would only need a differant head and paint job and at most a set of guns to mount on the sides of his head

while inferno would get a repainted grapple head mold the head guns and have the crane hook arm swapped out for a collapsible ladder piece

a little bit of paint some bit of remolding and it can be done.

    what are your thoughs people?

Sounds like a Customs & Kitbashes thread post... some edited pics of what you're thinking could be helpful both to others and yourself.

It would be interesting, but, if they could, I would rather see a new mold made for them (kinda like the Sunstreaker and Sideswipe situation, where they have the same basic mold, but have differences like the head and transformation). We are now supposedley getting Voyagers in the universe line, so, it could happen one way or the other.

Trademarks, not copyrights. Don't let Nevermore hear you talking like that... ;)

    Sounds worth a digibash, though...

If your looking for a classics Inferno and Grapple you could always use Energon Roadblock and Energon Inferno, that's what I did so I could even out the ranks for my classics

Energon and Cybertron have lots of G1 homages that can easily fit with Classics. Energon Inferno and Roadblock (Grapple) are perfect for Classics. The Crosswise repaint is obviously a great Smokescreen. There are several others as well, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Inferno is one of my favorite Autobots. I want a new mold.

In my other posts about Classics I always list Wheeljack,Inferno & Trailbreaker as my top 3 wants. I'd be really pissed (not that it's anything new thanks to Hasbro & Cartoon Network) if we got a crappy repaint for any of those characters.

Mudflap seems to be a perfect fit for Protectobot leader Hot Spot. It'd be a pretty easy remold, too:

    - New chest plate and head (the two are pretty much inseparable at any rate)
    - Ladder instead of crane

That's it! His color deco would remain largely unchanged, with some red and white added in for good measure.

    that would be sweet

now if they would just make an enlarged cybertron red alert for trailbreaker and rerelease that tow truck guy from the movie toyline as hoist

cybertron defense scattershot as warpath could work

a large cybrtron hardtop as beachcomber

classics bumblebee could be remolded into any one of the throttlebots

same with sunstreaker for making the classics battle chargers duo runamuck and runabout.

Neither of them really work for Inferno- Mudflap doesn't really resemble Inferno's body shape, while Energon Inferno is a bit too rotund.

If you're truly seeking an Inferno update, it could work.

How about the Happywell GaoGaiGar HyoRyu and EnRyu KO's? They're pretty cheap, and pretty well made. They're not perfect echoes of the G1 version, but I think they could reflect those two characters. I haven't retooled the heads yet, but was planning something like that... I even have a RaiRyu (in yellow) with HyoRyu's crane attached, so the colours work too.

Granted, they are a bit big for Classics, but they work alright with the larger series like Energon/Cybertron. :)

In response to your original idea, I like it. I think Mudflap is a great figure, and with a repaint, he'd make a great Inferno (and an even greater HotSpot as someone pointed out). I really like the Mudflap headsculpt, but if you wanted to replace it you might even find that G1 heads for Grapple and Inferno fit the body alright. Those two have really nice headsculpts.

Earlier today, I wondered why Mudflap was such a hated shelfwarmer- at first glance, the figure looks to have a great vehicle mode.

To be honest, Mudflap's garish pink detailings on a pale blue robot mode really reduce the appeal of the figure, as does the diaper-style crotch. The crane and sword are made of soft, flexible plastic that limits their use. The arms are burdened with platform-like kibble.

It seems apparent that every disappointing element of this figure is unified to create something unattractive to most fans.
