Could Blast Off be a tank as well as a space shuttle?

Its unlikely he'll get his own mold again. And seeing as tanks are more common place than space shuttles, would it be acceptable for Blast Off to be repainted from a tank mold again? As long as the robot mode is appropriate - I wouldn't want him repainted from Universe Galvatron or ROTF Bludgeon even with a head remold.

When I think "Blast Off" then I think "3...2...1...Blast Off!" So I totally disagree with him being a tank. It's stupid. He needs to be some type of jet or a space shuttle, which is why ROTF Dirge is gonna be my new Blast Off.

I just don't think of a cannon blast from a tank when I hear that name!

Going to have to go with a no on this one. Kids like space shuttles so don`t see an issue with Hasbro making him as one.

I haven't invested enough interest in the character to care too much about what his alt. mode is. I suppose a flying mode makes sense, given the Combaticons are different types of military vehicles, and Brawl is the token tank.

If it were up to me, he would be some sort of airplane. A space shuttle never made sense anyway.

Due to budget cuts in NASA, future molds of Blast Off will now be done as biplanes.

As a Combaticon, he should be a military vehicle. Space shuttles aren't military, and since we don't want the militarization of space, it should stay like that.

I agree with Ruination. A tank doesn't really cut it. Something like a vertical take-off Harrier jump jet would be more appropriate.

I think some form of surface to air missile launcher could also work with the name, but I prefer the Harrier.

Its been awhile now since we've got a new space shuttle. Classics Astrotrain and Armada Jetfire were the last two I can think of. We have so many tank bots that even Hasbro thinks there are too many.

    Bring on a space shuttle!

Although, I could get behind the idea of him as a c-130

Lol, nice. I don't see any valid reason as to why we wouldn't get him.

That could work, since the Hercules planes use the JATO for short runways.

When has anyone ever used the words "blast off" in reference to a tank? Never. Blast Off is a space shuttle.

Astronauts are almost entirely Air Force, NASA is a Government program, and the space race was entirely motivated by strategic military advantage. So no, I'd argue that Space Shuttle and the space program as a whole are military endeavors.

The 'space race' had more or less fizzled out after the moon landings to the extent that there was a joint mission between the US and the Soviets in the seventies. By the time of the first shuttle launch, the space race was over. The NASA shuttle would later launch missions to the Russian Mir space station.

It's true that NASA exploited the cold-war paranoia in the pursuit of their programs, but I would maintain that on both sides it was essentially about demonstrating technological superiority for propaganda purposes. If it took money away from the military, so much the better. It's a far more peaceful and profitable means of conflict than waging a war.

This is why I don't consider the Shuttle program part of the military.

One more reason why it isn't an ideal altmode for Blast-Off -> the Shuttle program is being retired next year. :(  ... but hopefully to make way for better things.

And Energon Jetfire as well, I believe.
I kinda thought of a big plane such as a C-130 also.

I think it almost fits better as a jet than a space shuttle because I also agree that shuttles aren't very military.

Blast Off definitely shouldn't be a tank. I don't think it makes any sense at all for him to be a tank. A military aircraft to me would make the most sense, since he is a COMBATicon and the space shuttle, like others have said, isn't really military. Though the surface to air launcher does kinda make sense too.

To be honest, I'll allow Blast Off to be the tank in the Universe/ROTF Bruticus sets simply because it allows everybody else to be in their proper spots (Swindle could work as anything, really, so a Chopper is ok).

But for the future? No. Blast-Off has always been the loner astronaut, and his alt. mode should reflect that. At best, make his alt. mode something that can at least achieve sub-orbital flight, like maybe a russian MiG jet fighter?

It's because tanks are cooler. I mean, space shuttles fly in outer space and all, but really all they're good for is floating about in an empty blackness. Tanks on the other hand blow stuff up and run things down, crushing anything that's unfortunate enough to get in it's way!

I'm ok with him being a tank, though I'd prefered an aircraft of some kind.
