I had ta edit this....lol
I don't think asking on these boards for cosplay advice is the best place, a dedicated cosplay site might have better tips.
Having said that, I think the way to go would be to make a decision about exactly what it is you want to achieve, 'somewhat Yellow Dancer/Season 4 Hannah/Madelyne Pryor/shake it up ghetto princess thing' is actually very vague IMO. I mean do a search on google for 'yellow dancer' and I get pictures of fly fishing baits. Do a search for 'Madelyne Pryor' and you get a multitude of different costumes, mostly varients on her Goblin queen outsfit which I suspect isn't the way you want to go.
Pick an exact specific character and outfit that you want to aim for and stick to that. Ie. Let's say Marvel Black Widow. Black body suit, red wig, gold belt and wrist bands. Black boots. Done.
The other thing I might suggest is going to one of those costume stores (that have ready made costumes) and picking out something you like and just going with that. Actually just ask a costume store worker your questions and they might be able to help you out lots.
Go to the convention section of the boards and look at the 22 minute DragonCon video all kinda random stuff in there you could get some ideas from!
I'm fairly new to cosplaying so I don't got any advice for you, but i hope you get the help you need
i need to get glasses, i seriously thought you said ted bundy
Not a cosplayer myself but a work friend of mine is. After deciding who he's going as he usually goes to costume shops, hobby shops that specialize in anime, and finally thrift stores/second hand stores(because they're wicked cheap).
I'm going to be L from Death Note...
so... jeans and a white shirt then?
Hair straighteners? I don't think you can use them on wigs, they'll probably melt the synthetic plastic and all you'll be left with is a goopy mess.
Stupid question and I'm too lazy to google but when exactly is halloween? Just so I can either a) stock up on bear traps or b) stock up on sweets that will probably end up in my belly instead of some kids bag.
Having said that I don't remember many trick or treaters round this way for the last couple of years. Where I used to live I do remember lots of trick or treaters, mostly really cute dressed up but woefully underage girls.
I am so going to jail.
/\ 3 weeks from tomorrow.
I don't like the term Cosplay. It is too much of an Anime convo terminology. When I do stuff like Star Wars, I don't consider it cosplay, I call it trooping. Same with my Ghostbuster. Plus, cosplay also seems like more of a younger people term. Teenagers and whatnot. The more I think about it, I hate the term cosplay.
Same here, man. Building costumes is one of my favorite hobbies (Currently working on a 'Fett build), but I hate the word cosplay, for the exact reasons you listed.
